Its such a con, its not any healthier its just smaller packets for most of it. people would save money if they just bought normal stuff and ate half of it. Although saying that calorie restriction very very rarely works long termterm. Its all designed to make people fail, if it was any good they'd put themselves out of business.

^ agreed!
I lost 3 stone on WW, have kept it off for over 3 years and sometimes ate WW meals/products for convenience. WW is not a con and it does work - if you are able to stick to it. If not, you have to try different things until you find what works FOR YOU. Hate people getting all preachy and holier-than-thou about weight loss companies. Just find what works for you and pipe down about what other people want to do. Sheesh.

When you say normal foods as opposed to WW ready meals, do you mean non processed foods where a person would cook from scratch from the raw ingredients? There are many additives in WW biscuits. There are also many additives in other processed non WW biscuits. It would be ideal to cook all our foodstuffs from scratch, but time and sourcing may be an issue. It's really an issue with the whole processed foods industry.

WW do promote cooking with fresh ingredients and have a variety of cook books. I never ate as healthily or had so little processed food as when I went to WW. I must say, in the past it was great to have a little packet of their biscuits (2 for one point) in my bag to have with a cup of tea if I was out, when the alternatives were other highly processed snacks with a lot more calories difficult to point.

I think there are a lot of generalisations on here.. I do SW.. I could equally have joined WW... I lost 2 stone and regained most of it..Through letting the rules I learnt slide. I find group helpful for ideas and support...

I have rejoined and made changes to my whole way of thinking and lost over half a stone in 2 weeks.

Losing weight is not a simple soultion and the reasons for weight is far more complex...

The diet food industry is a bit of a nightmare though as more and more sugar is added to food, fats are replaced by sugars... Yes back to basics is best but not if you can't cook.

Mind you, I'd never have touched those cheese cake things. Too many points for something gone in an instant. I used to bake their sugar free teabrack. You know the one where you steep mixed fruit in tea overnight and then mix with flour, spice and an egg to bind. A slice of that was much more filling. That reminds me I must make a couple, one for the freezer.

OP is obviously a Slimming World rep Grin

alittlethyme · 24/01/2015 14:52

I wasn't talking about the ww programme, as I have no knowledge of it. But what are its rules? Don't eat loads of crap?

I was talking about their products as they seem to be be biggest and I'm sure most people eating a ww muffin think they are eating some specially formulated health food. When in fact its just a smaller muffin.

I don't understand your point OP - you started off complaining about the cost, which seems odd as you could say the same about Tesco Finest food costing more than the bog-standard version, or any brand costing more than a supermarket's own product.

Then you mentioned people being conned and set up to fail, but you say you have no knowledge of the programme, and now you seem to think that someone buying a smaller muffin because it has fewer calories than a larger one is the problem.

How are you so sure that people eating WW muffins think they are eating some specially formulated health food? Could it not be that they are perfectly aware of what they are eating and have chosen it because its smaller size makes it less calorific?

TattyDevine · 24/01/2015 15:07

I am not a fan of Weight Watchers, but I don't believe the majority of people are that thick OP. It may just be a smaller muffin, but a smaller one that's baked for them, with a shelf life, and the points all tallied up for them. People with busy lives will find this the difference may mean sticking to their chosen programme. People who are out the door at 7am and in and out of meetings all day, that kind of thing.

TattyDevine · 24/01/2015 15:08

And not everybody is bothered about cost - they are buying time and the ability to fit something else in their very busy life. If they can save 30p, its probably a drop in the ocean and they couldn't give a shit. Why should they?
