opening the microwave door when its running blasts everyone nearby with radiation

OK so I am a tin foil hat person, but at work I sit near a microwave and people always spend ages typing in a number only to just open the door before its finished.

Aibu to think this door opening is blasting everyone with unnecessary radiation?

That's nearly as amusing as the person who thought it's brain damaging when babies look at fire. YABU! I would be more concerned about all the electrical devices in your office, WLAN, mobile phones... You get the idea.

whirring noise will be the cooling fan.

SilentCharisma's dad sounds like a sweetie and his explanation is a simple but accurate one.

Another way to explain it - if you rub the palms of your hands together they get hot, the quicker you move them the hotter they get, this is why different foods cook differently, the 'bite' inside them move more quickly with some foods and get hotter quicker.

If you put a block of ice in a mug and water in a second mug in a microwave and switch it on the water will boil before the ice melts.

Theoretically if you have those moulds to make ice shots you should be able to boil water inside one of the ice 'glasses', but obviously the water will start to melt the 'glass' from inside so it might not be thick enough.

OP

If it is faulty then it needs replacing.

My MIL microwaved an egg for THIRTEEN minutes in our microwave...

YANBU - All the walls in Sellafield are made of microwaves and the leak in 2005 was due to someone opening a door too soon when cooking a ready meal.

I think it was macaroni cheese but that was covered up by the government obviously.

As an aside - I too knew a Penfold. He was a nurse in the late 90s. I once saw a very tall service user pick him up and put him on top of a cupboard. We couldn't get him down for aaaaages because we were all (including Penfold) pissing ourselves so much.

Nope, XH isn't an architect, neither does he wear Penfold tshirts.

He's a clone. Isn't he.

Istanbul, my darling XMIL is absolutely, invincibly convinced that babies should never be allowed to look at electric lights. She can't offer any explanation for this, it is just so.
