to think that Norfolk isn't the only place you can holiday with Toddlers?

Seriously, I need a change but everybody I speak to seems to think that the north Norfolk coast is the ONLY (vaguely northern) place to go and have a good time on holiday with Toddlers. Can anybody help or am I going to have to go to the bloody overpriced and not that nice Sandringham café twice again this summer (once on the way and once on the way home)?!

VivaLeBeaver · 21/01/2015 18:27

Norfolk has a nice zoo. Can't remember the name.

MissBeehiving · 21/01/2015 18:31

Banham Zoo

VivaLeBeaver · 21/01/2015 18:33

That's it. Nice giraffe enclosure.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 21/01/2015 18:33

we had a chilly holiday in Norfolk one easter with toddlers, in a 'cottage' with no heating apart from towel rails Hmm that smelt of fags

it was the Best. Holiday. Ever

apart from the first night when we arrived chilly late and starving and OH went out for Provisions and came back with JUST wine and peanuts. The WANKER

we spent hours looking through the 'attractions' leaflets the owner had helpfully left, pissing ourselves laughing. Personal favourite?- the Wherry Museum, which boasted 'the only concrete hulled wherry in existence'

as OH said: there's a fucking Good Reason for that

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 21/01/2015 19:55

Poor op. She starts a thread about not holidaying in Norfolk and we all start banging on about Norfolk.

Hatespiders · 21/01/2015 19:58

Not strictly true. She wants a change from North Norfolk.

I gather the local dogging site near Norwich Prison is Mousehold? I used to take my classes there on foot to sketch.

SaucyMare · 21/01/2015 20:12

All of Scotland is lovely but from my 1 visit the south left bit is very beachy, and close

Showy · 21/01/2015 20:13

Aww, bit different from still life, eh?

Yup Mousehold. Prostitution and dogging. Only of an evening though. During the day it's dull normal.

mewkins · 21/01/2015 20:28

I think op means that norfolk is accessible from the north (where she lives!). Indeed, when I went to Norfolk there were lots of northerners holidaying there...more so than in Dorset or Cornwall for example. Though I have not done extensive research! Is Dorset really too far to drive for you? I love it there. Or how about Shropshire or north Wales? Are you keen to be on the coast?

Hatespiders · 21/01/2015 20:29

Well I never! Wicked goings-on on dear old Mousehold!

grannymcphee · 21/01/2015 20:29

Sorry Squoosh but you obviously have not been to Northumberland! Best beaches anywhere, (proper sand, not stones) and there are loads of interesting places to go! Research it, try it, and you won't be disappointed, but you will need to come back again as you will not see everything in one week or even two weeks holiday.

Hatespiders · 21/01/2015 20:32

Wroxham is full of Northerners in the summer. They come on coach trips. I often have a natter with some of them while doing my shopping there, and they say it's so 'unspoilt' and 'old-fashioned'. Many of them tell me they come year after year.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 21/01/2015 20:35

We live in Norfolk
Last few years we've been to North wales, The highlands and Devon.
I don't think there is much to do here to be honest as lovely as it is

Blu · 21/01/2015 20:45

OP: have you considered Wiveton Hall Café? Between Blakeney and Cley? With a good PYO fruit farm.
And Blickling is lovely.
And Sheringham Park.

Otherwise - Dorset. Lyme Regis. Lovely beaches along the coast, Donkey Sanctuary, hire a little motor boat from the charming bay at Beer, lovely area.

There's quite a lot to see and do nearby. The first is close to beaches and a number of interesting towns. Further afield is Folly Farm (park, zoo and indoor fairground).
From the second are a number of walks, the Montgomery Canal, Powys Castle, and slightly further, Park Hall Farm.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 21/01/2015 21:20

for toddlers I like close by amenities, loo's cafes, other stuff to do, dont want ot be on rural beach miles from everything.

therefore only place for me is dorset.

MorelliOrRanger · 21/01/2015 22:08

Ahh the chipper in Cromer is No 1 and they serve the kids food in a bucket with a spade. Its lovely.

MorelliOrRanger · 21/01/2015 22:14

Wroxham is horrendous in the summer, sometimes I wish I could move out for three months tbh, its so busy with the one route into Norwich.

Pleasurewood hills probably is a lot different these days Showy. Its my 7yo fave place to go and again you can use your Tesco vouchers there and at Banham I think.

I used to do school cross country training on Mousehold Heath. Even during the day we saw some pretty dodgy stuff
