To ask if it's just me?

I have been flicking through the primary education boards and am now wondering if I am alone insofar that I have never worried about ds's place in the class or his extra curricular activities or his levels ...

Is it really just me who takes him to school and picks him up and - well, that's it?

I think I mostly agree with you, between. My parents used to pretty much take me to school and pick me up. My mum would intermittently ask me if I'd done my homework and I'd say yes, even if I hadn't.

My eldest isn't even 8 yet. In some countries she wouldn't have started formal education. As long as she is happy at school and managing her work, that's fine by me. If there's something she is struggling with and I can help, I'm glad to - but other than that, I try not to get too involved. I think it's a bit odd to worry about your child's place in the class and I've heard teachers say that it's a question they loathe at parent's evening.

I think all kids are different. My parents (one of whom was a teacher never pushed me because I was always very studious but neither of my brothers really gave a monkeys about school and My parents did nag them quite a lot.

My dd is somewhere in between. As a teacher I felt really wary of bringing that home with me so I sort of went the other way. As she got older it became clear that she might need a bit of help in some areas so I started to encourage her and look for ways to support her. She's a hard working kid (which is the main thing) but some subjects don't come easy to her. I think if you have a very able child who just seems to get on with it then it might be fine to take a back seat at all times. To be honest I don't think either extreme is great!
