Or am I just an ungrateful cow?

They are always useful!

But I wouldn't want them for my birthday.

CaptainAnkles · 18/01/2015 15:31

As an extra Christmas stocking filler silly gift = fine.
Main birthday or anniversary gift = unacceptable.

Well they are more practical than bath salts you don't like. I like practical presents though.

JuniperTisane · 18/01/2015 15:33

Depends. From your nan on moving house? Brilliant. Can never have too many tea towels. From your husband for your birthday? No its a bit shit.

Cornettoninja · 18/01/2015 15:35

It's a shit present unless your particularly proud of your new kitchen or something and it's a little gesture.

We have someone who keeps giving us hand towels.... It's just bizarre tbh.

NoisyOyster · 18/01/2015 15:40

Oh Sad I found a teatowel that my new friend would love. It utterly matches the theme of her kitchen and I didn't know Her well enough to buy a massively expensive christmas present, but wanted to make a gesture.

Now I feel really bad Sad I was so chuffed when I found it

bexster5 · 18/01/2015 15:41

Cornettoninja that IS bizarre!

Main Xmas present from SIL. So not that big a deal. I was just wondering if I was missing something re amazingness of tea towels or if they're just not particularly fab. I think it looks like the latter...

It was nice of her to get me something though!

LadyLuck10 · 18/01/2015 15:42

Yanbu, it's a cheap gift. Like giving someone socks. Better than bath salts I guess.

Nancy66 · 18/01/2015 15:43

some people are just not very good, or imaginative, when it comes to presents.

my best friend always buys me absolute tat. I love her dearly, she's just bloody hopeless at presents.

MarjorieMelon · 18/01/2015 15:43

I need some new tea towels and there are some really nice ones about at the moment. I would be happy to receive a tea towel as a gift.

Some people are odd about presents they don't want to receive anything that they consider to be for the house and not them. My house doesn't celebrate birthdays or Christmas so I'm happy to receive presents on its behalf.

bexster5 · 18/01/2015 15:44

NoisyOyster don't feel bad that sounds thoughtful! I have no theme to my kitchen apart from the modernist messy-food-covered-chic and this particular tea towel had a cartoon on saying Dierdre couldn't make up her mind so made a cup of tea instead. I don't even drink tea anymore.

So now I'm outing myself as a boring weirdo (no tea?!!??!) As well as an ungrateful cow :/

OP posts:
MarjorieMelon · 18/01/2015 15:48

That doesn't sound the classiest of tea towels bexster! It was obviously just a token gift.

MarjorieMelon · 18/01/2015 15:49

Not that tea towels are supposed to be classy. Just thought my last post made me sound like I have tea towel snobbery.

HerrenaHarridan · 18/01/2015 15:49

I have received tea towels for christmas and been very happy with them. Totally about context

I'd rather have so thing useful that some piece of nonsense I'm supposed to be grateful for because someone put wrapping paper round it

Aherdofmims · 18/01/2015 15:52

I was given tea towels for Christmas by a younger person. I was v pleased with them as they were pretty ones. I might have suggested I am old but I needed them!

nocoolnamesleft · 18/01/2015 15:53

My brother gave me a death by Shakespeare tea towel. Love it!

DurhamDurham · 18/01/2015 15:54

It would depend on who they were from.
It would be a rubbish gift for your husband to give you but a nice present from someone else. My oldest daughter used to bring me a tea towel back whenever she went on a school trip, I built up quite a collection and I thought it was very thoughtful

I bought my friend tea towels for Xmas - she's just moved into her new flat and they were cath kidston (who she loves), and not cheap! I also got a yankee candle as she loves those too. She said she loved the pressies and really hope I didn't actually make a booboo!!!

gamerchick · 18/01/2015 15:58

I wouldn't mind tea towels... I'm the type that loves smellies though Grin

At least they were for you. My pressies were shared between me and the husband.

RJnomore · 18/01/2015 16:01

Nah they are a rubbish present.

I've just decided what to get the couple where I really don't like her for a wedding present (if it gets that far).

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 18/01/2015 16:01

Noisy I bought a friend a tea towel once. It was bright pink and said 'save water, drink champagne'. Tacky as hell but she lives pink kitsch stuff so it suited her down to the ground and she said she loved it. No problem with giving tea towels if they're given with thought for your intended recipient! Ours are completely worn out and bedraggled so would be happy if someone bought me a generic pack from ikea to be honest Smile

RJnomore · 18/01/2015 16:02

Oh I do think they are ok as holiday presents - its a teatowel or a mug or a keying or a fridge magnet isn't it?

ChocolateOranges · 18/01/2015 16:09

Holiday presents ? Who gives those? Confused
