to think they should of reacted a bit differently?

So my Mum and her DP moved house yesterday, set in a couple of acres of land, landlord lives fairly close with three dogs roaming. (Not a problem, they like dogs) the landlady said dogs are fine and just look scary and that when they have visitors just round them up in a pen/run type thing. All OK so far..

Earlier today my mums partner stroked one of the dogs and the dog launched at his face and bit him, after he managed to get the dog off his face it went for his arm. He's a mess and covered in blood.

Owners haven't said a word. They went and told them and they barely had a reaction! Surely that's not right?! They also held their small deposit back too!

Anyway cut a long story short they left. Lived there for all of a day. He is quite shook up and my mum is rather upset too.

I'm just so glad I didn't take the kids there. Doesn't bare thinking about.

Surely if you are going to rent out your house to tenants you ensure your dog's are well trained and not likely to attack like that?

Call the police.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 17/01/2015 23:49

That's horrific! I do hope they are both alright, how scary.

I hope they reported it or are going to report it to the police.

AnnieLobeseder · 17/01/2015 23:50

They should contact the police, and your mum's DP should go to the out of hours surgery to get himself checked out. They would be foolish and negligent to just brush this under the carpet IMO. Yes, you were lucky it wasn't your child who was attacked, but next time it could be a child.

Don't get me wrong, the blame is very much on the owner of this dog to get it trained and under control. But they apparently haven't bothered, so to make sure this doesn't happen again, I think your mum and her DP have an obligation to report this to the authorities.

SavoyCabbage · 17/01/2015 23:52

I agree with Annie. They must report it.

passmethewineplease · 17/01/2015 23:53

He is still a bit in a daze tbh. He is going up to the out of hours tomorrow to get his hand looked at and will report it then I'd imagine.

If he doesn't I'll badger him until he does. I Couldn't live with myself if it happened to someone else when we could of prevented it.

Has he reported it!? How awful! They've had a lucky escape! they sounds like fools and their dog needs looking at...by experts.

passmethewineplease · 17/01/2015 23:58

Think he's reporting it tomorrow when he goes out of hours. He's understandably been a bit off since. So will probably think about it more in the morning.

That sounds very sensible, passme. I hope your mum's DP is okay. They must be very shocked and upset.

Mabelface · 18/01/2015 00:02

I'd think he needs medical attention sooner to avoid the risk of infection.

AmantesSuntAmentes · 18/01/2015 00:19

The dangerous dogs act was recently changed, to include attacks on private property. It's considered such a serious problem, that the owner can incur up to 5 years imprisonment for any non fatal attack.

I hope he's OK and that he is able to report this. As a dog owner, irresponsible owners really, really infuriate me!

fishinabarrell · 18/01/2015 00:47

Call the Police and tbh I'd consider breaking the tenancy, looking into a get out clause. If the LL gives this little of a crap when someone is attacked by one of his dogs, would you want to e anywhere near to it or any others the LL owns?

Aridane · 18/01/2015 08:39

Pls call the police today - don't put it off until tomorrow

TheWitTank · 18/01/2015 08:55

Please call the police ASAP and get some medical attention - also tell him to clean out the wounds as dog bites can lead to infection which is increased by skin repair (as he is waiting to go to the doctors).
They must report. Imagine if they rent again to people with children. Horrifying.

yellowdinosauragain · 18/01/2015 09:28

Doctor here. Dog boys can be very nasty in terms of infection (not as bad as cat or human ones but still nasty) so make sure he does get it looked at asap. Ideally he should have gone last night.

And if he doesn't report it can you?

passmethewineplease · 18/01/2015 11:28

That's what I was wondering yellow

Going to give my mum a call in a minute and see how he got on. If he tells the DR why it happened do they have a duty to report it as well?

OP posts:
yellowdinosauragain · 18/01/2015 11:49

No duty on the doctor to report it. It would have never crossed my mind to do anything other than advise my patient to report it themselves
