..it just makes me even more angry.DH does this and knows it drives me up the wall. I mean, explain yourself at least for Gods sake, but shrugging is so passive aggressive it makes me want to scream!

Maybe they don't want to fight?

usualsuspect333 · 17/01/2015 19:50

Dp does it if you ask him 'what shall we have for dinner?'

So not likely to cause a fight Grin

namelessposter · 17/01/2015 19:51

DH presses all my buttons by rolling his eyes like a teenager. I hate it.

Primadonnagirl · 17/01/2015 19:52

I don't want to fight..I want an answer .As in " Where is x?' And I expect and adult to be able to articulate a response!

Oh god I HATE it when people shrug at me...it's like they really don't care enough to even think about what you've said

Grrrrr!!! Angry

People (and my students) that know me don't do it anymore Wink

chocomochi · 17/01/2015 20:00

Would your preference be a grunted "dunno" instead?

wintersdawn · 17/01/2015 20:01

It's my DD expression of the moment, slightly forgivable for the fact she's 3 but yes very annoying.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 17/01/2015 20:02

I do it when I just don't have the words to explain myself.

Or to convey that I just don't give a Fuck.

And I roll my eyes cos the shite that falls out of people's gobs is just unbelievable.

It's sometimes better for all concerned that I either shrug my shoulders or roll my eyes as you probably wouldn't want to hear what I'm really thinking.

Primadonnagirl · 17/01/2015 20:13

" dunno" is just as bad...explain yourself !!! I accept I might not like what rInhear but at least then I know where I stand . A shrug is just so pathetic! Especially when it's used from anything to " where the washing powder?!" to " where is Dsd?!"

OP posts:
DoJo · 17/01/2015 20:16

What is it's a 'don't know' shrug rather than a 'don't care' one? Does that annoy you?

DoJo · 17/01/2015 20:18

Whoops - managed to take ages just to type that and can't even shrug my way out of it. It doesn't sound like it's the shrugging that's the problem, more than DSD-losing, washing-powder-ambivalent shrugger who is giving all us helpful shruggers a bad name...

Primadonnagirl · 17/01/2015 20:28

But I can't distinguish between " don't know " and " don't care" so I assume the latter

OP posts:
MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 17/01/2015 20:34

I shrug my shoulders when I don't know the answer to something. The expression on my face would say I don't care either.

OttiliaVonBCup · 17/01/2015 20:36

Don't ever go to France.

OttiliaVonBCup · 17/01/2015 20:39

Must say I love a good shrug.

There so many things you can convey with that, and when you add hand gestures and eyes and possible sounds to that, the possibilities are endless and wonderful.

I can probably translate War and Peace in shrugs.

MerdeAlor · 17/01/2015 20:40

Bof

Bakeoffcakes · 17/01/2015 20:43

Oh I can't remember the last time I saw someone shrug. I don't mind them at all.

Seriouslyffs · 17/01/2015 20:51

DS can't say 'yes' or 'no'
He says 'sort of' and 'not really'
'Hello teenage son, are you hungry?'
'Sort of'
'Did you have lunch?'
'Not really'

Salmotrutta · 17/01/2015 20:51

I think it depends on the circumstances.

It could mean "I don't know".

OR it could mean "I don't care".

The former I can forgive but if it's the latter I'd rather the shrugger explained themselves verbally rather than being a twat.
