New HotelFootball in Manchester

Evening all,

AIBU to be disappointed that a hotel that advertises itself as a "go-to destination for families" does not offer family rooms? A family of 1 adult and 2 children needs to book interconnecting rooms and the chepest rate I could find on the website was £145, so £290 for 1 night.

I appreciate that HotelFootball won't be everyone's cup of tea and yes £145 is alot of money, but as a DM of 2 super crazy footbal boys that have been waiting months for it to open I'm really disappointed as it was meant to be a joint birthday present for them.

Ring and ask to speak to reservations. Can you pick a diff night?

iklboo · 17/01/2015 19:33

Is it just a 'themed' hotel near Old Trafford? Sorry, I can't see much on the website that gives a lot of detail.

Thudercatsrule · 17/01/2015 19:35

I did contact them, the room occupancy is a maximum of 2, I said I had 2 boys under 10 and they said I'd need 2 rooms with an interconnecting door. It obviously wasn't meant to be for us and i can imagine that a lot of other families will be disappointed.

Honestly - you'd probably be better booking one of the many other hotels nearby & spending the difference on the club tour, trip to Urbis etc. It looks like it's just charging for where it is & who built it.

Don't think the occupancy rules is an accident / oversight either - they'll be screwing as much as they can out of fans knowing families will have to book at least 2 rooms. YANBU to have thought they'd have some family rooms though.

That sounds a bit steep and rather cheeky!
Have you tried one of the comparison sites like trivago?

Petallic · 17/01/2015 20:11

Don't do it - it's not that great around by the football stadium - there's literally just the ground and a gift shop that is football related and for that sort of money you could maybe get a trivago deal/last minute staying way up high in the Hilton Tower in Manchester City centre - far better view and only 5 mins on tram back to Old Trafford during the day for sightseeing etc.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 20:13

Agree. The ground is in the middle of Trafford Park. And that's 'park' as in 'industrial', not green & leafy.

There's hotels on the Quays that are cheaper, the Hilton might have Lateroom / Trivago deals & give you spends to do other stuff.

My boys like the museum of football though, give that a go.

Agree with not staying at the hotel, there is literally nothing round there of interest bar Old Trafford.

If you stay at Salford Quays, for example, you've a lovely river walk to Old Trafford, are near the BBC/CBBC for tours, on the tram line for the centre of Manchester, and you'll save yourself some pennies on the room too.

Thudercatsrule · 17/01/2015 20:41

Thanks, I'll have a look at those areas.

Also exhibitions at The Lowry (think CBBC one is still on - and free), shopping for you Smile. Places to eat. Tram into Manchester for football museum, other museums too.

I'm afraid Hotel Football is not designed for families. It's mainly designed for corporate hospitality.

I've stayed at the Hilton on Deansgate and it's a great hotel especially if you get a room quite high up and it's so easy to get to Old Trafford.

Hotel Football is run by G&G Hospitality and is all about wanky hospitality , "events" private parties. I honestly wouldn't bother.

iklboo · 17/01/2015 23:37

Afternoon tea at the Hilton is lovely too. 23rd floor with a great view - and a walk of faith glass panel on the floor.

noitsbecky · 17/01/2015 23:39

Much better football-related things you could be doing in Manchester than those knob head's hotel. Football is about history and legacy, not flashy bedrooms.
