Should I re-buy Christmas presents?

I sent 2 Christmas presents to my SIL and DN (5) over three weeks ago but they've been lost in the post. Gah! They live abroad and we do secret Santa between adults in our family so that each year you get one decent gift from siblings and siblings in law. For the DNieces and DNephews a couple has a child each so that they get a decent present and the child isn't inundated with lots of small gifts. In total the gifts were worth about £120 that I sent. I didn't send them by registered post, stupidly I know but I had a baby mid December so my head wasn't really with it when I was posting the presents. Still isn't if I'm honest hence this post.

So, should I get them gifts again do you think? I don't think they expect them.

If they don't expect them then I wouldn't bother. It's all in the past now, Christmas is well over.

I think this shows the importance of sending things by at least signed for post. My children's great aunt sent them money in the normal post this year. Just stuffed the extra cards with money in one envelope with a Christmas card. Only a damaged envelope and Christmas card arrived. The money was stolen. She had no come back though as she didn't send it signed for. She hasn't sent them again. I posted a parcel today signed for and it is covered for up to £50. In your situation, I don't know if i would send again. It would depend if i could afford it and the relative wealth between me and the other people. ultimately it is worth paying extra postage for guaranteed signed for delivery, but it's really annoying that you have to do that.

I wouldn't re send, but I'd definitely use registered post in the future. Congratulations on lo.

I think you can claim for some sort of compensation from the post office even thought it wasn't registered - I know I have for smaller items that went missing.
