Should my daughter be wearing slippers in her office?

With the snow last week my 22 year old daughter had been wearing her hunters to work.

But instead of taking shoes to change into she has taken slippers- she says she's not dealing with the public (although clients do visit) and it is more comfortable and practical.

drunkendonut I also work in a lab and one former member of staff did wear slippers on night shifts, I have a pair of crocs in my locker to change into should I feel the need.

One of the benefits of running my own business (briefly) was that no one had the balls to query my footwear Smile

Trainers on the journey to work, then stow them in the bottom drawer and have socked feet all day. Shoes on for clients and for disciplinaries.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 19/01/2015 22:18

If I was the client I wouldn't have a problem with what people wear to work.

My main concern is if the person was able to do the job.

lurkerspeaks · 19/01/2015 22:39

I'm a professional - my colleagues and I all wear crocs to work.

They are comfy and we all spend quite a lot of time on our feet!

gobbin · 19/01/2015 22:40

Our charity wear it pink day in 2013 saw me trolling round work in a onesie and slippers. It felt weird and so, so wrong, but also strangely comforting. Made the job easier, briefly.

Chippednailvarnish · 19/01/2015 22:42

Wow OP do you have a shoe fetish?

ChippingInLatteLover · 19/01/2015 22:59

She's 22. At what point are you going to concede she's an adult?

A word of advice/warning. If you continue to treat her as a child, it will cause issues. Yes, she will always be your child, but she is not A child. Really, start respecting that, because it wears thin, quickly.

MidniteScribbler · 20/01/2015 00:52

Meh, as soon as the kids are out the door in the afternoon I kick off my shoes while I'm working in the classroom. So do most of the staff that work in my area.

I can't imagine why anyone would spend too long pondering the footwear choices of other coworkers.

Topseyt · 20/01/2015 02:55

I wear my slippers to work at the moment. I am working from home for the next few weeks though, so I am at my own kitchen table. Grin

plummyjam · 20/01/2015 06:38

When it's snowing anything goes. If the job is not client facing then I shouldn't think it matters what you where on your feet.

Having said that I do have a client facing role and recently had a style and colours review. Totally changed the way I dress for work and became a lot smarter. I do honestly think it made me more confident and possibly better at my job Shock

BitOutOfPractice · 20/01/2015 07:04

Blimey if people only posted on what was "their business" and nobody asked questions about their dc post-weaning, mn would close by lunchtime!

Op, if she wants to be taken seriously, ever, then no she shouldn't.

I wander about my office (law firm) in anything from stocking feet to big fluffy socks. No-one bats an eyelid.

I once had to do a hearing in the Crown Court while wearing Ugg boots, but there were mitigating circumstances. Grin

blueshoes · 20/01/2015 08:39

I work in a law firm too, but in the City. Erm, nobody wears slippers. Not even pregnant women. At most, ballet flats. The lawyers don't go to court but they occasionally have client meetings.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/01/2015 08:54

We have two sales offices within our building and they all wear slippers Grin. No customers are permitted in that part of the building, and if they come out for any reason they swap to their proper (usually 5ins high) shoes. Makes.me jealous. My office is half back of house and half front of house....no way could I swap back and forth all day.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/01/2015 08:58

OP maybe everyone in her office does the same. In which case it is normal and acceptable in her place of work, whatever your opinion.

Instituteofstudies · 20/01/2015 09:13

Depends what sort of office. Law firm etc, no. Advertising company full of creatives, probably fine. I worked for an ad company with sweet dispensers, a row of model dogs in the window, that were dressed up in different themed outfits each week, football tables, tv's and squishy sofas. I don't think anyone would have noticed a slipper wearing member of staff.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2015 09:49

I imagine the office of a slipper manufacturer might be OK too.

musicalendorphins2 · 20/01/2015 12:07

She must be cold. These warm and beautiful slippers and moccasins could be worn in an office as you describe. Expensive though. Maybe some closer to home, or even uggs. store.manitobah.ca/collections/storyboots

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 20/01/2015 13:40

But it's her employers she should take notice of, not you. Why would she care if you think it's not ok, if her employes are fine with it? She's 22. Old enough to have children, drink, vote, blah blah blah. Therefore she's perfectly old enough to make her own decisions regarding footwear. Why do you even know what she wears on her feet when she gets to work?! I left home at 18 to go to university then started a grad scheme so didn't go back home, I don't think my parents have known what I'm wearing on my feet (unless I'm with them, obviously!) since then.

Spadequeen · 20/01/2015 22:29

Op, why is this any of your business?
