how long is reasonable/unreasonable to put up with constant mirena bleeding?

With a new bastard mirena?

I'm also thinking that the mirena's contraceptive effectiveness is due to not wanting any sex at all because of the constant bastard bleeding.

I am not enjoying it at all.

I had the same issue with my first Mirena, it bothered me enough to have it removed.
And a new one put straight back in!

Second one no problems at all, I still have a "period" every month, give or take.
The last year I tend to go 8 weeks between "periods".

I am still deciding on whether to leave mine in or not. I got it in 4 months ago and I have bled most days since. Irregular bleeding and spotting is common for the first 6 months or so, apparently. I now have a period (a bit lighter and shorter than it was previously) and then spotting most of the rest of the time. I did have a full week this month with no bleeding which is progress.

I have decided to leave it in until the summer anyway to see how I get on, and if I can at all leave it in for up to a year (as sometimes it settles down after a year from some posts I read on here).

I used pads for the bleeding for the first 2 months or so, but have now started using the mooncup again. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems. I break the seal before pulling at it. I was lucky in that I found it really easy to get the coil in. It barely hurt at all (more of a weird sensation) and no major pain afterwards (just slight cramping like a period).

Other than the bleeding I am having no obvious major problems with it. I had some slight increase in acne before my periods initially, but that seems to be gone now. I haven't gained any weight, though I was trying to lose some and maybe it is making it slightly harder? Though I did notice before I got it put in that I was finding it harder to lose weight this year than I did previously. I think this might be a hormonal/age thing myself. I only wanted to lose a few pounds anyway so no too bothered.

So other than the bleeding no major issues with the Mirena. Ironically I got it put in partly because I was having very irregular and frequent periods. Hmm I might see if I can convince the doctor to put me on the pill for a bit to see if it helps settle it.

I've just got back after having surgery to remove mine from behind my bowel by my hip! If something doesn't feel right, definitely get it checked. I had horrible pain for two months but no bleeding as I was breastfeeding and just assumed it had to settle in. I went to the doctor to have it removed as couldn't bear it any more and she couldn't find the strings. Ultrasound couldn't find it, x Ray showed where it was and they rushed me into surgery. Doctor thought it probably perforated my womb on insertion. Urgh. Trust your instincts if something doesn't feel right!
