to have my front tooth removed?

Well, the rest are nearly all gone off the top row, I only have back molars and one front tooth which is a crown (I look like Nanny McFee without me gnashers in!!). So I have a denture, but having front teeth where one is fixed and one is on a denture makes biting food really difficult. The denture side kind of 'tips up' against the fixed tooth.

So, WIBU to have my last front tooth out and added to the denture, has anyone got any experience of whether this would make biting easier or not.

my dad is a dentist and says the nhs dentures are crap - he had his made (for patients) by a chap whose dentures were a "work of art" - good well fitted and made dentures shouldn't move - his feedback from his patients is that they are v comfortable and they last for ages - I would seek better dentures.

If your wearing dentures (apart from just one tooth) anyway I don't think it would be out of the question to ask about it esp as your having difficulty eating etc.

I understand it's much easier to get dentures to fit properly when there is 'total clearance' of other teeth in that area.

The remaining tooth is likely to be affected by the loss of bone surrounding it and will probably suffer from the gum receding and exposing the parts without enamel.

Unless you have a particular emotional attachment to the tooth it may be better to have it taken out and new dentures made.

Consult your dentist (plus a few others) for professional advice.

How about considering dental implants? There is a procedure called all on 4 which gives teeth fixed to 4 implants, it's a permanent solution.

I have a partial denture for my front tooth and the other is a crown like you. I know what you mean about the biting I can no longer bite into things like apples. I have been advised to try fixodent or similar but haven't yet. I would love to have implants but the cost is crazy so for now I just cut up all hard foods.

Thanks for some really brilliant advice folks, I knew MNers would come through!

I think I will have the tooth out, wait for gums to settle and then find some 'work of art' dentures not on NHS. My Dad has some implants (I take after him tooth-wise; absolutely crap!!) but they cost thousands, probably more than I could afford Sad

Thanks again for helping me to come up with a plan, Flowers for you all!!
