zoella is terrible for making millions by getting paid to flog £135 "beauty" products

Dd is obsessed with her, I've just watched her latest video and its full of all these pricey beauty products that she raves about. Like one big long advert. She gets away with it by being all cute and smiley, but grrr she's annoying and unethical.

I want to become a youtube guru!

Any demand for quirky looking 40-odd yr old woman who is crap at make-up (but needs it) do you think? not sure I could cope with haters though

If you can't beat them, join them and all that

Cheesymonster · 16/01/2015 12:08

I would welcome more 40 something you tubers to watch chandon being 40 this year myself. The teens make me feel terribly old...

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 16/01/2015 13:23

I used to like zoella but her channel is just constant sponsored videos or daft expensive hauls (then she acts as if everyone can afford them)...at least Fleur unashamedly does madly expensive hauls without pretending she's soooo down to earth!

I have a soft spot for Sprinkle of glitter though! (And not beauty related but I LOVE Marie BitsAndClips! And Carla TheBubbleLush)

The SacconeJolys are the most irritating pair of idiots I've seen in a long time! They infuriate me....the Sheurman show is heading that same way to!

(I have a terrible YouTube addiction!)

BiancaDelRio · 16/01/2015 13:24

I'm in the process of starting my own YouTube channel and makeup blog. Eeek!

I've had wobbles thinking I'm too old (34) but feck it. I love makeup and think there'd definitely be an audience for slightly older makeup people.

I might resurrect this thread and post a link once I get my first video up Grin

HatieKokpins · 16/01/2015 13:39

There are shedloads of fucking brilliant older beauty BLOGGERS, not so much on youtube though. Vloggers really are selling to kids.

BiancaDelRio · 16/01/2015 13:41

I think tutorials (NOT advertisements masquerading as tutorials) would be beneficial to older women.

My sister, friends, sister's friends are always asking how I do my makeup and what products I use. Sharing this info via videos could hopefully work well.

squoosh · 16/01/2015 13:45

I'd never heard of this Zoella till there was a bit of hoopla about the book she released just before Christmas. I know I'm not her target audience but she looks so tooth rottingly twee.

BiancaDelRio · 16/01/2015 13:47

She is squoosh.

The worst videos are the ones where her and Tanya Burr get together to do 'girly' pamper nights and simper and giggle all the way through. Rage. All the rage.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 16/01/2015 13:51

I can't beat her or Tanya Burr. I hate that YT forces them on me in unskippable adverts, and I hated the fucking Charing Cross Zoella adverts which waved and simpered at me on my commute AAAAARGH

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 16/01/2015 13:51

Bear not beat!

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 16/01/2015 13:57

Ugh totally agree...i started wTching youtube vids years ago, before it got so big, and vids were actually just normal girls, with normal budgets, buying things from boots / body shop, etc. i unsubscribed to loads of them when they got big aka signed to gleam. All they do is advertise things i cant afford. And i am a 28 year old woman who works! How do they expect teens to afford it?

I also hate the fact that zoella signed for MIND. I suffered with depression and anxiety, and all zoella does is complain things are hard, and she cant go places. Unless its about her then she can all of a sudden fly all over the world, hold massive events, etc. I honestly think she uses her anxiety as an excuse for laziness. What concerns me more is that some of the kids where i work watch her, and now they all talk about 'anxiety' and 'omg im having a panic attack' NO YOU'RE NOT!!! i think she has actually made the 'image' of anxiety worse, as now every teen who gets a bit nervous thinks they have a disorder...

Rant over lol

Lisa Eldridge! She's awesome in my opinion.

squoosh · 16/01/2015 14:05

Yes I love Lisa Eldridge too.

chrome100 · 16/01/2015 15:15

I watched that SacconeJoly channel after reading about it on here - I just did.not.get.it.

Who cares? I mean, really? Why do I care what they do with their day and with their kids? Very dull.

I've just taken a peek at that Saccone Joly thing. It's like discovering a very dark side to the internet you were previously unaware of. Snuff movies would be less alarming.

What's the point of them???

squoosh · 16/01/2015 15:27

I've just had another look at the horror that is their youtube channel. The Saconne Jolys don't make me feel very jolly.

BiancaDelRio · 16/01/2015 15:27

I watched that family yesterday after reading about them on here. Very odd and kinda cult like.

I have a makeup room Grin . I just finished it this week.

I've always been curious whether Sprinkleofglitter is an mnetter.
