To want to hunt down whoever packages socks

And lock them in a dungeon with 200 unpaired socks - each of which only has one other sock that it can be matched to.

it give me the rage! Every fucking coloured sock sold runs on the principle of having every pair in the multipack of six slightly different. Whhhyyyy? What's wrong with six identical pairs that can be paired without the aid of Interpol? And where you don't have to chuck both socks if one gets a hole.

It's a male plot to keep the women oppressed; stand under my banner!

*see also: pants with days of the week on them. DD is no longer satisfied with clean pants. She looked at me with doe-like accusing eyes as I wrangled her into 'Friday' pants. What next - 'Wear me on third Wednesday in January under pink leggings if your name begins with 'S'' printed on your pants????

YABU.

I'm another one who finds it easier to match and keep track of socks with a distinctive pattern on each pair.

Beehatch · 13/01/2015 13:29

You need some Oddsocks

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 13/01/2015 14:43

The different coloured toes jobbies are bastards too. i have twin boys but one is the next size up in socks. I still cant pair socks properly!

NorbertDentressangle · 13/01/2015 14:49

DS has a really annoying pack of 5 pairs of black and grey school socks.

Each pair has a slightly different pattern to the black/grey stripe (some wider, some narrower, some in clusters of stripes with a gap between the clusters etc) - when you've got them all in front of you, sorting them is like some sort of perverse optical illusion.

How does everyone lose so many socks? Like a previous poster we don't have this problem Confused

splodgeses · 13/01/2015 15:02

I officially do not own any socks, I steal DH's

Me too!

Don't really have a sock issue in this house. It is obvious whose sock it is, it goes in their drawer. Wear them odd, matching or not at all.

We don't lose them. Most washing machines have a wormhole that pairs up with an identical one 452 miles away and switches one sock per wash. Clearly your machine simply hasn't paired up yet.

chemenger · 13/01/2015 20:59

Before we had children we did not lose socks. What I don't understand is since having them not only do their socks go missing but mine and DH's do too. I think there is something to be said for the wormhole theory.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 14/01/2015 11:31

Kids socks (especially) are just sneaky little bastards!

SavoyCabbage · 14/01/2015 11:42

I've a friend who has a sock bag and everybody just rummages in and gets out two socks.

I throw all socks in a basket then I pay my dc a smartie per pair. I lie on the sofa.

Oldraver · 14/01/2015 12:17

We dont pair them....I have recently bought www.marksandspencer.com/5-pairs-of-freshfeet-cotton-rich-fine-striped-socks-with-silver-technology-5-14-years-/p/p22359194 and just shove them in the sock drawer and pick out two socks.

I must admit last years colours are a better mix but I''m not so bothered by sock colours. They are really OH's socks kept in the downstairs bedroom and I was forever pinching them so I've doubled the supply

Oldraver · 14/01/2015 12:33

I also had a bit of a hissyfit called sockgate in our house a few years ago with DS's school socks... I was forever struggling pairing up socks with ones of the same length and shade.

I now make sure I buy the same packs and they all go at the same time
