To let a five month old who can roll sleep on front

Even through he can't roll back to front he can roll front to back. Am at end of tether after he was ill and HAVENT slept well for ages and had literally NO sleep last night.

On his back he cries, on his front he sleeps. If I let him go to sleep then turn him he wakes up.

I don't know what to do. I'm so tired. I've put him on his front because I couslnt stand the crying any more and he's sleepig so soundly and in falling asleep.

What should I do?

I'm really really sorry, I don't want this to sound like I'm being at all judgemental, but I'm really sure, like a pp said, I'm sure that it's about the 4-6 month mark that's the highest risk for SIDS. I know you'll be desperate for sleep and it must be so difficult.

Personally I would let him sleep like it.

Neither of mine would sleep on their back ever. With both of them I cracked and let them sleep on their front quite early on.

If there are no other risk factors (no smokers in the house, etc) I would go with it.

Some people feel very strongly about this because the number of babies dying from SIDS dropped dramatically around the time they started to recommend back sleeping. The thing is a lot of other recommendations changed too and there was more awareness of things like the risk of second hand smoke so it's not really as clear as all that.

It's also that babies sleep more deeply on their fronts so are therefore less likely to wake up if there is a problem.

However I need to say I am not recommending it as I got flamed once for saying that I had let mine sleep on their front and accuses of practically murdering the OP's baby!

Let him sleep. DS was the same. He went through a fun stage of rolling over to his back and not being able to roll back to his front. I don't think he slept for about a month.

Really Sword? Confused Everything here (the States) says the peak is 2-4 months. But who knows, the advice seems to change so often!

Hope you got some sleep OP. :)

That's not true. Peak risk of sids is 2-3mo. Risk decreases after that and again at 6mo (which is why recommendations to room share are up to six months).
The recommendation is to put all babies on their back until they are of an age when they are lying themselves down and fully mobile. However the risk is decreasing from 3mo onwards. It is one of a number of recommendations and you should choose the best action for your family.

See: www.lullabytrust.org.uk/document.doc?id=300 for a summary of the evidence, risks and recommendations.

Yes, I think you're right cheerful. 2-4 months seems to be highest risk, 90% of cases happen at younger than 6 months.

Sorry, I was wrong.
