Blogs are usually very self indulgent aren't they? I have particular disdain for the ones which go on and on about whatever the hot topic of the day is and then end with a question in the last paragraph. "What do you think? Can curvy girls rock prints?" Fuck off.

Greywackejones · 10/01/2015 19:17

Turquoise, glad not just me! Grin bridget Jones has so much to answer for. It's all just shite pastiches of that bloody awful book. Taken female literature back centuries..... Hmm

Bulbasaur · 10/01/2015 19:27

I hate parent blogs with the exception of two because they are funny and irreverent while still keeping it real, and I have forgotten to check on both for the last 4 months because I just lost interest.

A few are good for a one time check if they have a recipe, DIY project or something, but not something I'd follow.

Their lives are boring. I don't care what self indulgent lesson they learned from their child that they should have already learned as an emotionally intelligent adult in the first place. Like "Appreciate the little things" or "This unusual bonding thing made me realize my child needed 1:1 time with me and accept them for who they are".

Write a blog about something interesting that not everyone has a glimpse into. There's a few good blogs out there written by doctors, soldiers, scientists, that are intriguing.

Yanbu

Saw one recently, the Husbeast.

No, just no. Like others have said, give them fake (but actual) names or even just an initial.

HatefullyHeather · 10/01/2015 19:49

I get that blogging about housework, grocery shopping etc might be dull, but in most blogs I used to read these things didn't seem to exist. It was all the fabulous things they had done with their adorable children and they still had time to photograph their frothy coffee and cake in their local divine cafe. It might be true (though it doesn't reflect the lives of anyone I know in real life); in fact it often seems slightly dishonest and competitive.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 10/01/2015 20:11

Husbeast. Noooooooo!

Most Blogs make quite nice diaries you could share with your family when you are old, but are like hen supping wattercress for everyone else.

shortfatsally · 10/01/2015 23:30

YANBU

I hate mummy blogs in general. Loads of people have children, loads of people find the experience meaningful. Your compulsion to write about it does not make your experience any more meaningful than anyone else's.

Millli · 11/01/2015 00:51

shortfatsally I don't think anyone penning a Mummy blog thinks that their child rearing experience is any better than anyone else's, just that they enjoy blogging on that subject.

squoosh · 11/01/2015 03:20

Yes!

I hate when people refer to their partner as Himself or The Boy or The Mister and refer to their kids as The Littles.

ZammoMcGuire · 11/01/2015 05:41

There aren't many funny ones. I went to blog fest where one called something about a rock and roll mum was frequently referred to as "hilarious" so I looked. It was just a woman blagging free things.

I affectionately refer to my kids as numbnuts 1 and numbnuts 2. Clearly I need to start a blog Grin

ZenNudist · 11/01/2015 06:10

I don't generally care what bloggers call their families. It's just part of the trope that they keep them anonymous whilst posting pictures of what they had for dinner/ the dc on holiday etc.

I don't read many blogs regularly because they're not that interesting, it's nice to read one if you like it and go back through the archive but anything too braggy or insipid bores me.

I quite like one called hurrah for gin. What do all the discerning people on this thread like?

dobedobedo · 11/01/2015 06:32

I don't really read blogs that much. Also interested.

skylark2 · 11/01/2015 09:13

If it's boring, just don't read it. It's not compulsory.

Same for the magazines. Don't buy them if they're crap.

I don't read any Look At Me Being A Mum blogs, so can't help with advice.

HatieKokpins · 12/01/2015 08:46

Not all blogs are mummy blogs.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 12/01/2015 09:40

I love Mummy blogs. The only one I've ever found that I hated was The Alpha Parent.

Mine probably irritates, I call my boyfriend 'D' and the baby is 'SB' (for Speed Bump, the title of the blog)

Of course youre all assuming that bloggers all care what you think of their pasttime ;)

YoullLikeItNotaLot · 12/01/2015 10:44

MoominKoalaAndMini

Well the open publishing aspect would indicate they do else they'd have a private word document, emailed to selected people. Grin

Obviously it's hilarious when you stumble across one by someone you know though, so while I reserve the right to gently mock, I'm glad people do publish. looking at you colleague

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 12/01/2015 11:04

Not really Youll - if someone likes the blog content, it' great, if they don't, that's fine, but I don't think many bloggers are that fussed about what people think about blogging. It doesn't bother me that people think blogging is boring or self-obsessed - no-one's forcing them to read it, after all, so it's no skin off my nose.
