to feel guilty for getting £18 of chocolate for free from tesco

So I bought 3 boxes of chocloates that were on 3 for 2. All the same type. Then at the checkout the deal didn't go through, I noticed as only bought a few things. I went to cs and after checking the problem was that the manufacturer changed the barcode on the product and one box had a different barcode.

Tesco then gave me all three boxes even though it wasn't really their fault. I did feel terribly guilty

Now we know what prompted the OP to start the other thread.

Lucky you. Our locsl tesco knows nothing about the double the difference refund.

Bakeoffcakes · 06/01/2015 21:31

This is the second thread you've started today about shopping and food banks. Hmm

movingtoourwillow · 06/01/2015 22:06

FGS OP they make millions in profit every year, have killed many of our high streets and you're worried about £18??? Take it as payment for your time spent waiting in the bloody tobacco queue!

MissDuke · 06/01/2015 22:12

Did you put the money back in the kitty op?

slightlyworriednc · 06/01/2015 22:21

You've been here 3 days and started some really weird threads. Hmm

Laquitar · 06/01/2015 22:21

Shame they didnt give you 3 tins of kidney beans for your canapes.
Can you go and find a hobby now and stop it with the food banks?

piggychops · 06/01/2015 22:22

I had something similar. The barcode on the chocs wasn't recognised by the system and there was no ticket on the shelf either. The supervisor asked if I would pay £3 for them which was well under value.

PacificDogwood · 06/01/2015 22:23

Guilty?
You are feeling guilty over £18 worth of goods??

How much do you think Mr Tesco is making from your return custom and you telling all your friends (and the internet!) how generous they've been?!

Tiny loss-leader - do not waste a tear.

Give the free ones away and go to Tesco and buy another 3 boxes and pay the correct price this time.
Its the manufacturers fault not the shop workers fault so there was no need for brashness. This could reflect badly on whoever is deemed not to have picked up on it and should have. Congratulations OP your free booty could cost someone their job, its tantamount to theft Hmm

Have we got to the bottom of what OP's username means, yet?

It's not tantamount to theft at all. It could be the shop policy.
I went to another supermarket a few months ago, the reduced price barcode on some milk didn't go through so it scanned at normal price. I noticed, told the person manning the self-service tills, she voided it and gave it to me for free because it is their policy to do that if the barcode stuffs up.

OP - you are being somewhat sanctimonious about it - you got the chocolate, you didn't pay for them, but you won't consider giving it to a food bank because it's "nutritionally void"? What a load of bollocks. Of course it's not nutritionally void! It might not be the healthiest way to get certain macro and micro nutrients, but it still contains them!

Dr Who fan I assume.
