For reference, we don't have a walk in centre.

I've got hypermobility EDS, and today I've somehow subluxated my shoulder and it won't go all the way back. It looks a little lower than the shoulder on the other side, and it's so painful, but I can still use my arm for most things.

I can't get it back in, OH can't get it back in... WIBU and wasting time to call and get an OOH appointment tomorrow morning if its no better in the morning? Painkillers aren't really touching it and the pain is into my chest :( I just don't want to be seen as wasting time.

You poor thing.

That sounds urgent to me. I'd get it sorted ASAP.

A&E, they'll be able to give you proper pain relief and reduce it for you.

Surely your shoulder being out of its joint could stop the blood flow to some of the blood vessels etc, and do long term damage?

ED. The OOH wont be able to reduce or relocate and you're risking damage to the underlying soft tissue/ligaments leaving it.

This is what the ED is for.

I agree. A&E tonight. That's what they are there for. Not sore throats and stubbed toes.

Our A&E is horrific on a Saturday night :( I don't want to disrupt DD's routine so it'd be a taxi job and I don't feel like it's bad enough for A&E really. The out of hours is in the A&E department so they can refer you from one to the other if need be, but waiting times are usually pushing 6 or 7 hours and I figured at least at home I have access to ice and hot water bottles and a comfy chair :(

Call out of hours now. You should get an appointment time. They will refer you for treatment so there isn't so much waiting around. You should get it seen to ASAP.

Went to A&E. Waited. 8 ambulances queuing outside, minor injuries closed, 2 doctors in the whole A&E.

I've come home. OH and DD sleeping. I've had cocodamol and going back in morning. Arm went fully numb at one point, keep getting pins and needles in hand. Can hardly move my arm now :(

That sounds frustrating.

Your arm is out of socket and they just sent you home with some pain meds? Ugh.

As a GP and ex A&E doc you need A&E not OOH. Going to the GP will only prolong things as they will send you to A&E (or ED as they now want to be called) for X-Rays prior to any treatment.

They didn't send me home with the meds, thankfully I already had cocodamol in the house. not really tocuhing the pain but hopefully it'll send me to sleep :(

Ooohhhhh... I misread that as they gave you a pat on the head and told you to come back in the morning. Still, hope you have better luck tomorrow.

Sounds hellish in A&E and compounds my relief I don't have an A&E placement!

How far is the hospital from you? Our nearest A&E is 26 miles away!

That sounds miserable. You poor thing. I hope you managed to get some sleep.

Our A&E is a 5 minute drive away thankfully. There was a poor woman in her pyjamas, in her sixties, turfed out of her bed in A&E after being told she was staying the night, and told she had to find a way home at 1am. She is from a rural town an hour from the hospital, a long country drive that no taxi would be willing to attempt, and she had no-one to drive her.

Woken up and it's still out, so back to A&E once DD's had her breakfast.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Went back to A&E, got seen quickly and within five minutes it was back to normal, I've strained the muscle too so it'll be sore for a while but he said it's normal with subluxations. Phew!
