To be annoyed that the workman left the toilet seat up?

I had an internet engineer type person round. When he was finished he asked to use the bathroom. No problem. Only when I went up later the toilet seat was up. I think that is so disrespectful and rude. Leave it how you find it ffs. My 5 year old knows the put the seat and lid back down. Why a middle aged grown man seems incapable is beyond me.

My friend told me it was no big deal (well, of course it's not in the scheme of things but it still pissed me off), and that "that's what men do". Well no man I've ever lived with.

I'm not about to complain or anything Grin but AIBU to think it's disrespectful to leave the toilet seat up, especially in someone else's house, and especially if that someone is a paying client?

Our house is 4 female and 1 male. We all put the loo seat down when we flush so no nasty germs jump out and onto our toothbrushes, so i think it is pretty disgusting that he left the seat up while he flushed. (I'm hoping he flushed anyhow)

spidey66 · 03/01/2015 15:04

It's no big deal and wouldn't bother me tbh. But then I'm hardly the most house proud person in the world.

Neverknowingly · 03/01/2015 15:04

My DH says the same ici. Now that DS2 has arrived we have a 3:2 boy girl divide and DH has decreed there will be no more requirement to put the seat down. Gallantly he has stated that we females shall not be berated if we choose to leave the seats down Grin

Bartlebee · 03/01/2015 15:09

The seat/lid should be left down. You wouldn't leave a cupboard door open after you had used it.

I have trained the males in this house very well and they would never leave the seat up because I am scarey.

Olbasaddict · 03/01/2015 15:10

My DH forgets to put the seat down at night sometimes, and if I get up to go I almost fall into the bowl - I dont turn the lights on as I try to creep around silently so I don't wake anyone.

squoosh · 03/01/2015 15:12

I don't leave cupboard doors open but I never ever close the lid on the toilet.

Momagain1 · 03/01/2015 15:20

Closing the toilet if that's how you found it is much like closing a gate or door behind you, or closing a cabinet or storage container that you had to open. It isnt anything to do with the potential convenience of whoever the next user might be, it is simply a thing that is done. My grandmother had more sons than daughters, as did my mom, and all her siblings so a household being mostly male is irrelevent as to whether or not the lid is closed. close the toilet, flush it, and wash you hands. Basic toilet training in my extended family.

An open toilet is potentially hazardous if there are toddlers in the home, and if there are pets, they dont need to have easy access to the toilet as drinking water, not to mention things like phones can't fall into a closed toilet.

I'm confused, are we talking about the lid or the seat??

Willabywallaby · 03/01/2015 15:46

According to horrible sciences putting the lid down to flush sends bacteria further as they hit the lid and ooze out from the gap shooting out horizontally.

Bartlebee · 03/01/2015 15:53

I'm always a bit surprised if I see estate agent photos of a lovely, pristine house with a swanky bathroom that has a gaping maw open toilet.

That mat be just me...

We all put the loo seat down when we flush so no nasty germs jump out and onto our toothbrushes you are taking the piss aren't you WillWorkForMoney?

WillWorkForMoney · 03/01/2015 16:25

No I'm not taking the piss as i close the kid Wink

Its a scientific fact toilet germs can travel up to 6ft away.

WillWorkForMoney · 03/01/2015 16:26

lid

usualsuspect333 · 03/01/2015 16:35

No one ever closes lid on our toilet. I'm not even sure why the lid is there.

Hatespiders · 03/01/2015 17:52

The lid is there for elderly ladies like me to sit on to dry their feet!

Very interesting experiment showing how far germs travel.
We keep our toothbrushes in a small cupboard, so atomised poo germs wouldn't be falling on them.

For me, the main reason for closing the lid is to prevent it banging down on the toilet and possibly cracking it.
