Just beginning to think what I might attempt to do next year.
I'm not joining a gym, don't drink, don't want to change my job.
So go on, fire my imagination! What are the weird and wonderful NY Resolutions from the Mumsnet collective memory?

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 30/12/2014 20:56

I want to learn how to confidently play and sing Joan Baez's 'Diamonds and Rust' and also walk the whole of the Welsh Costal path (not at the same time).

Horopu · 30/12/2014 20:56

To take myself seriously.
To work out why I procrastinate.

apotatoprintinapeartree · 30/12/2014 20:59

Mine is to become semi proficient at managing different media on my laptop.
I am sick of not being able to upload dvds and photos etc.

BlahBlahYeahYeah · 30/12/2014 21:00

I have Afew boring ones but you asked for unusual op, so my two
rather at odds with each other resolutions are:

To spend loads more money on myself so I can look and feel good

And

To give more in charity.

and to stop buying effing more toys

This year I resolved to not buy and clothes. Nearly there. It has been interesting to find out what I actually need (jeans and a work jacket)!

whothehellknows · 30/12/2014 21:50

One of mine (besides losing weight and giving up Ben & Jerry's) is to keep a gratitude jar like this one with my daughters. The idea is to get in the habit of writing down funny things that happen or days that make you happy so that the following NYE you have nice memories to read about.

(in my case, it will help me remember things like when my eldest was mucking about in Tesco and slipped, gracefully sliding 10 feet into a stack of baskets... I nearly wet myself.)

Failedspinster · 30/12/2014 21:54

To be kinder to myself: to buy myself nice things and use them, to take time to do the things I want to, to give myself a break.

Also, to apply to go on the Chase. And to finish my novel.

RavenRose · 30/12/2014 22:02

To stop buying clothes and sew them instead. I have a houseful of fabric, trims, buttons, 7 sewing machines plus endless other kit and still only sew about 10% of my stuff. I just need to find the time to do it - which sadly is the hardest bit

ItsaboatJack · 30/12/2014 22:05

A friend of mine once had one not to eat yogurt. She didn't actually like yogurt anyway but just wanted a resolution she could keep for once.

RoastingYourChestnutsHurtsAlot · 30/12/2014 22:12

Ditch everyone

I've had the year from hell and not one person at any point in RL outside of my immediate family has asked how u am why I've been in hospital how I'm doing now whether I need a friend want to go for coffee etc. Not one person. Not once. In 12 tucking months.

So that's my resolution. Ditch the bastards

DamnBamboo · 30/12/2014 22:20

Love it itsaboat

I shall make 4th one - never to drink milk again. I can't fail at that because I can't stand the stuff :-)

DuelingFanjo · 30/12/2014 22:26

I would also like to either be totally honest in my facebook updates, or come off facebook altogether. I think the latter will end up being easier.

Noodledoodledoo · 30/12/2014 23:03

I had one a few years ago to visit a different country every month - and I achieved it =)

Some were weekends, some were holidays, some were day visits.

I made a decision to make positive resolutions going forward about improving things - losing weight is always a target so why make the same resolution every year!

Last years was to get pregnant - result is no going out for NYE as 13 week old to play with!

ThedementedPenguin · 30/12/2014 23:18

Okay mine are boring normal ones

  1. To be healthier, I still have my baby weight on. Have at least 2 stone to lose (last weighed beginning of summer so I'm sure there's more). So ideally I want to lose weight but I want to do it by eating better and moving more.
  1. Spending more time with my kids. This sounds nuts as I am a sahm but I feel like life is passing me by. We don't really do anything, I don't take them anywhere, so want to sign up to some activities for them. Take them to the park, the zoo. Just make some wonderful memories when I can.
  1. Find something for me, a new hobby or an activity. I'm not sure what but something that's just for me. My life is my kids and I don't really do anything for myself. I have no friends so I want to chane that.
Jelliebabe2 · 31/12/2014 00:24

I AM going to get preggo this year! Only been trying 8 years and on to 3rd ivf.... This next go IS THE ONE! Xmas Grin

Discopanda · 31/12/2014 02:35

Good luck Jelliebabe2! I've been joking that my NYR is to have a baby but I'm pregnant. I'm going to write down memories and positive things throughout the year (glitterised a jar yesterday especially!) and then read through them at the end of the year.

Bulbasaur · 31/12/2014 03:52

Mine are:

  1. Seriously get back into my career, and either get a stable job in my field or build up more clients to support us.
  2. Spend less time dicking around on the internet unless it's work related.
  3. Crib break DD. No more sleeping in the swing.
  4. More sex! DD has killed our sex life despite best intentions on both sides from me and DH. I didn't get an expensive form or birth control for it to just sit there.
  5. I don't have too much intention of delving deeply into this, but I want to learn how to sew if I have time for it.
samesizetoes · 31/12/2014 07:57

Mine is every meal I eat will be eaten from a plate using a knife and fork. I'm hoping this will slow down the snacking and paying more attention to the food I eat.

MrsPresley · 31/12/2014 08:13

Oh mine is a very stupid one but I'm determined to stick to it!

I'm going to keep my handbag tidy! I'm sick of the amount of receipts and rubbish in it and it's embarrassing pulling out loads of receipts when I'm looking for something that's underneath the pile Grin

So supermarket receipts will go in the bin after I've checked them and any I need to keep will go in an envelope, which will be checked every so often and thrown away when I no longer need them!

Iggly · 31/12/2014 14:17

Mine are dull.

Exercise once a week, hoping to get up to three by the summer.

Give up my job and take a career break.

Go vegetarian for a month

Balaboosta · 31/12/2014 14:48

To have sex with 10 people, half of them women.

ovaryhill · 31/12/2014 15:27

To use wishing wells for good instead of evil

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 31/12/2014 16:40

To give up saying 'I promise'.

DD1(12) has no patience with broken promises. I get a right ear full, even if the broken promise is result of unexpected events (my visitor ending up in hospital, an unexpected invite for New Year...)

So I'm going to say 'I certainly plan to' rather than I promise.
Wonder if I'll be able to train myself to do that???

Bair · 31/12/2014 17:51

I plan to always choose to shop or spend my money somewhere that pays the living wage over somewhere that doesn't.

ScrumpyBetty · 31/12/2014 18:49

Good one bair
I plan to practice random acts of kindness- sending a card or a parcel to someone who needs cheering up, aiming to do this once a week
