You simply bookmark the last post you read then scroll up and click on 'watch this thread'

That way threads don't have to be full up with 'marking place' comments?

A minor gripe I know, but it happens all the time and very few people seem to realise that you don't have to post you are marking your place to actually keep up with a thread.

Agree with Viking, you can't bookmark on the app. If you watch a thread it goes onto a jumbled list of ALL threads I've ever watched.

I add a comment so that it goes to 'threads I'm on'.

Active threads includes every single thread that's had a sticky so I can't use it.

yabu

I only really use MN on a PC. If you hover the cursor to the lower right of a post, a little blue box should appear on screen which says 'Bookmark'. If you click on it, it will change to 'Saved!'

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/12/2014 08:48

I have TIO bookmarked, never remember to check Watched threads.

Alpaca thank you for your answer re. Granddad's medals.

mrsrisotto, if you are on the mobile site, there's three little dots in the bottom right hand corner of a post. Tap them, and up will come some options, one of which is a bookmark icon. Tap it.

If on the desktop site, tap the bottom right hand corner of the post you want yo mark, and the word "Saved" will appear.

Next time you open the thread, it will go straight to the bookmarked post, so no need to scroll through to find it.

msrisotto · 30/12/2014 08:57

Is that definitely the case with a mac does anyone know? Despite your helpful instructions, i'm having no luck.

fedupandfeelingold · 30/12/2014 09:01

Sorry -I see options from the dots of;
Report, pm, profile. And reply,
And the icons for fb,twitter, Google+,and a text message box (that won't let me click it)
Plus at the bottom of the mobile site are options for active, watching, add post,I'm on and search - nothing for 'bookmarked'?

wanderingcloud · 30/12/2014 09:03

Agreed. On a mobile using chrome browser and there is no option to bookmark. So until it's possible from every device YABU!

TotallySociallyInept · 30/12/2014 09:03

Fedup on a mobile you should have 5blue buttons at the bottom. Active, watch, home, I'm on, and search. To put a thread in watch go to top off thread and click.on a down facing ^ which gives you a menu click on watch this thread. Then when you go to watched click on the last poster next time you go back to watched. Were you read from before Will be highlighted unless there has been more then 18 posts since you last looked.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/12/2014 09:05

On a Mac desktop/laptop (Safari), just hover the mouse in the bottom RH corner of a post and a bookmark link appears. Works with your finger if using Desktop view on an Iphone/Ipad.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 30/12/2014 09:10

People place mark? Who'd 've thought it?

fedupandfeelingold · 30/12/2014 09:10

I can put a thread on watching bot it sounded like if you bookmark it then you go to the last place you bookmarked?
So if I go to bed and want to check out a very active thread in the morning it would have had many more posts but I could pick up where I left it

msrisotto · 30/12/2014 09:15

I give up. I've been a hovering all over the bottom right of posts and nothing!

youarekiddingme · 30/12/2014 09:17

I always thought was a jokey but also true way of showing an OP on a particularly interesting/funny thread - where there is a conclusion or next stage - that you were waiting for that post. Or showing your waiting to see how something pans out.

There's not always anything to say at that point that hasn't been said - but you're waiting to comment!

TotallySociallyInept · 30/12/2014 09:18

If it's been very active more then 18 posts no. You just have to click on the last one in watched then flick backwards through a page or 2. Not perfect but better then not watching and having to scroll through 9 pages to find were you were.

It might depend which view you've got set in Customise, I think bookmarking was introduced when they gave us Mumsnet New, if you're still using Mumsnet Classic you might not have it, but it's easy to switch.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 30/12/2014 09:56

I tried to bookmark on the laptop once when a previous thread was moaning about place markers. I couldn't do it.

Really dont understand the problem about place marking, but can understand that it could be annoying for others as we are all different.
