To be pissed off at burnt dinner

I cook a lovely home cooked meal for my husband every single day even if he is working late. Today we were meant to be going to a restaurant but we have had to postpone as DS isn't well. As I was putting DS to bed husband asks what's for dinner? We agree to have one of the frozen meals. When I come downstairs he has been drinking and snacking. Dinner is shitty and burnt with not even any vegetables or anything. Then he calls me ungrateful! Is it so bloody difficult to oven cook something premade? I cook from scratch every single day. He can cook too so it is not a competency issue. Now he is not talking to me because I am being unreasonable over my dinner which I have separated into burnt and not burnt so I can actually eat it.

Get a takeaway?

Girl33 · 28/12/2014 19:28

I wish but it's too late now :( by the time it arrives it won't be worth the hassle

We all burn the dinner sometimes.

Have some cheese on toast.

puntasticusername · 28/12/2014 19:29

Is he sulking because he fucked it up by cooking when drunk?

annabelcaramel · 28/12/2014 19:30

Is he eating his?

bloodyteenagers · 28/12/2014 19:32

I think he is me.
The few times I have tried
To cook frozen meals I burn it. I read
The instructions and always burn the thing.
I have sat in the kitchen, the bastard food has chosen that moment I pop out for a second to go from raw to burnt.

Girl33 · 28/12/2014 19:37

It's just the one day in months I haven't cooked from scratch and it wasn't bloody worth it! I'm breastfeeding so dinner is a massive issue for me . Huge appetite. Beans on toast it is.

Ah you are breastfeeding. If DH had burnt my dinner when I was breastfeeding I would have bitten his leg off.

MrsTawdry · 28/12/2014 19:50

How is 7.30pm too late for a takeaway? Either way he is lazy but it's not something I'd get really upset about.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 28/12/2014 19:56

We once visited the PiL when I was breastfeeding. We went straight from work and arrived about 9PM and they hadn't got any food in for us. DH bundled me straight back in the car to go and find a chippy. No discussion, no ifs or buts; he didn't dare give me a chance to unleash my wrath.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2014 19:59

I'd be annoyed too tbh.

If he never has to cook he can at least manage a ready Meal ffs.

It think he'd burnt it on purpose or he'd not have snacked and if he had cooked some veg or something to show he actually took so pride in having an edible.meal it would be forgivable. but he clearly just couldn't be arsed

ChillySundays · 28/12/2014 22:33

I had a casserole in the slow cooker. My friend came round and didn't leave until after 7. Nobody had peeled a potato to go with the casserole or got any veg out. Apparently they thought the potatoes were in the casserole - bearing in mind that in the whole time we have been together the potatoes have always been cooked separately. And he took the lid off to stir the casserole so should have realised no potatoes.

They really are lazy fuckers sometimes

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 28/12/2014 22:36

The trouble is when people do not cook often, then it's a big task to cook a meal.

I would suggest that he cooks more often. You can not expect somebody who never cooks to pull off a meal.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2014 22:38

Really?

its too much to expect someone to read some instructions or Google?

ChillySundays · 28/12/2014 22:54

All I was expecting was someone to peel some potatoes

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 28/12/2014 22:58

But the instructions are not accurate. Fan assistant ovens you need to reduce heat and time.

Microwave instruction are based on the watt of the microwave.

furcoatbigknickers · 28/12/2014 22:59

It was so not too late for a take away

Bunbaker · 28/12/2014 23:06

"How is 7.30pm too late for a takeaway?"

I was wondering that as well. 7.30 seems to be a pretty normal time for a takeaway.

Tinofroses · 28/12/2014 23:27

My dh told me he didn't like his meatballs boiled in gravy. I nearly killed him As I fried them and then separated his into separate dish with onions and gravy and finished off in oven as the rest of us like with spag and tomatoe sauce. Ours was Delish . I told to cook his own bloody dinner in future.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2014 23:51

But the instructions are not accurate. Fan assistant ovens you need to reduce heat and time

times and temps for different ovens are also in instructions.

We also have eyes. He could have checked

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 28/12/2014 23:55

If someone is not used to cooking, then even checking it may not be enough.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2014 23:59

If you have eaten something. then you must know what it looks like.

It wasn't an exotic meal from scratch. It was a frozen meal. Surely most people know what lasagne looks like when it's cooked for example

There's a picture on the damn box

Girl33 · 29/12/2014 12:25

It would have been at least 8.15 before it arrived and I can't wait to eat dinner for that long :( it was a frozen chicken Kiev and chips. He left the burnt chips and ate the half burnt Kiev.
