They've had to make redundancies, etc etc but to announce it today of all days is bloody cruel & achieves nothing business wise, but worries & alienates their staff.

Bad call CL you could have waited till tomorrow at least or Monday. Fucking bad timing.

Sympathies to all involved I know there is one MN poster on here at least who has mentioned it.

:( I know a few of their employees, not good.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 25/12/2014 23:56

They are sort of obliged to try and maximise income. For a delivery company this usually means Christmas trade

NeedsAsockamnesty · 25/12/2014 23:56

Not meaning that I don't think its dreadful of course

LittleBearPad · 26/12/2014 00:03

If they are insolvent then the directors would be breaking the law to keep trading.

MissMarplesBloomers · 26/12/2014 00:08

Can understand them keeping going till Christmas as its their busiest time but they don't trade on Christmas Day, why break the news now even if it was officially the last day of trading legally?

It went bust yesterday as that's when the administrators were appointed.

whois · 26/12/2014 00:15

The decision won't have been taken lightly. It's a highly regulated thing and has to be done in accordance wth insolvency law, not to save people's feelings unfortunately.

PourMyselfACupOfAmbition · 26/12/2014 00:32

City link were owned by an investment firm and it's they who called the administrators in.

It's crap yes, but it's not cruel.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/12/2014 00:37

With all the online shopping going on today, they would have still been trading today even if only electronically I would think - there will be retailers, warehouses etc still preparing orders and booking deliveries even though it's Christmas Day. I bet I could go on to other courier websites and arrange a collection, and pay for it.

They wouldn't have had a choice. They were probably trying to limp through to see if the pre-christmas rush helped.

MissMarplesBloomers · 26/12/2014 00:47

Regardless of the crappy legalities, someone, somewhere could have taken the call to do whatever legalities needing doing to start the process but delay the announcement until tomorrow, THAT's the cruel bit.

I started the other thread (utter cunts)

They have announced it on the news, People have given statements to the news.

But noone has told the staff anything, dh checked his emails and there's nothing.

Yes they have a protocol and a law to follow, but the least they could do on fucking christmas day is send us an email to explain that we may miss rent payments

The news is reporting they cannot guarantee wages after the 31st December, which makes no sense atall as ACAS Website says redundancy has a minimum notice period and payment.

They are paying any owed overtime on 9th jan, even the books out probably. December's pay was paid on 19th December (and used for xmas)

Floundering · 26/12/2014 01:23

Disgusting behaviour to announce it on national media but not tell the staff, even if they couldn't before today. Just unprofessional.

earplugsahoy · 26/12/2014 01:26

The thing is, on Friday last week someone in the office said there will be an announcement this week.. Guess they missed their staff off the memo.

I am so wired i cannot sleep for worry
