to think we're screwed? Can anyone think of a solution?

DH's salary hasn't gone into his account today. He started a new job in November so this should have been six weeks salary. And it's just not gone in.

If I'd known in advance that he wasn't going to be paid we'd have been OK but I thought he was about to get a fairly big pay packet (2.5k +) and so I've not been as careful as I should have been - most of my salary (I get paid much earlier in the month) has gone on Christmas and short term loans to DH which we thought he'd be able to get back to me when he got paid.

Now it's Christmas Eve and I have £50 in my bank balance and he has nothing. The payroll department from his company have gone home for Christmas and won't be back until 29th.

We have credit cards but no savings - he was unemployed for a year before he got this job and it depleted us quite badly. Could my bills go out via dd over the Christmas period? Are we about to have things bouncing?

And is there any way anyone can think of to resolve this? He's the most senior manager in work today (skeleton staff due to holidays) so he thinks there isn't anyone he can call.

We should be able to meet most of our Christmas obligations due to credit card but that is making me feel a little sick as we've had awful credit card debt in the past and only finished paying it off last year and now we're falling back into bad ways again.

Please someone tell me I'm being U and this will be OK?

I work in payroll and was told that the banks have up until 4pm to make sure the money has gone into accounts so I'm sure it will end up going in today, just might be a bit later than you were hoping. If it's not in by midday I would give the bank a ring just to doublecheck but it's certainly not that unusual to have it appear a bit later on in the day.

Maybe don't spend what you don't have.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 24/12/2014 10:58

OP hasn't spent it, Reeky, she has direct debits coming out of her account for her bills. Did you not read the thread? Confused

cakedcrusader · 24/12/2014 12:01

Let's hope Santa brings you some empathy Reeky, you obviously have none Hmm or the ability to rtft

Op glad all is sorted now!

I will relax when the money has gone through! Am debating cancelling DD just in case as if money doesn't show by close of business we really are stuffed.

Argh! Who does salaries on Christmas Eve anyway? Stupid people ~mutters~

Panic over, bills can be paid, and DH is leaving work at 4 pm to come home for Christmas!

Reekypear. Go stuff your Turkey. You never have a nice word to say to anyone, ever. What's your problem?

On second thoughts, I don't really care, just stop it.

ScrummyPup · 24/12/2014 15:13

I would expect the company to meet any costs incurred.

Reekypear · 24/12/2014 15:31

I don't have a turkey.

Reekypear · 24/12/2014 15:34

Also op said 'I've not been as careful as I should, most of my salary had gone on xmas and short term loans'.

Advising someone to not spend what they don't have is an act of kindness.
