www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/use-beetroot-for-lipstick-but-men-like-the-natural-look-senator-advises-russian-women-9939466.html

I'm a lippy queen and very rarely leave the house without it. While dh thought this story was stupid, I think actually its an issue that would adversely affect millions and shows how sexist Russian men are.

No its more of a pink type of colour when it's mixed in Smile

Plenty of us don't use it and do fine (much cheaper). What we need is many many many fewer Russian women seeing their only currency as their sexual currency. We need them to give up lipstick and start being the new oligarchs. It is a very sexist country full of abusive drunk fat men and women who want to be kept by men.

Very well said FlowerFairy.

I think not having lipstick is the least of their problems.. Having sufficient food, heat and clothing for them and their families is a more pressing issue

debbriana · 24/12/2014 17:13

At list they are not eating chemicals.

What's so terrible about that OP? Loads better that having to use gravy browning on your legs to imitate stockings (the smell was appalling - or so my Mum told me)

Not having lipstick is rather a first world problem isn't it? Hmm

When we went on a family holiday to a country where imports were non-existent and everyone was skint the guidebook said if you need to tip people don't give money give chewing gum, biros, makeup.

I remember we were in a toilet and my mum was putting some eyebrow pencil on and a woman came in and was really sort of begging her to give it to her.

I guess that when everything is a struggle and things that were once available aren't any more they become important / symbolic / luxurious? Plus women who are used to wearing makeup are going to struggle if they can't get hold of it - whether that's a good thing or not (clearly not IMO!) it's a fact isn't it.

On the sexist thing I found the comment from someone in power about women looking better in russian made lingerie than french lingerie far more sexist.

This was in the mid-80s BTW not recently! I was a child on holiday with my parents.

It is the main route out of poverty for Russian women, their looks. A friend kept warning his UK male friend about this but the man still rushed into a quick second marriage with a Russian. The risk was all there. New wife waited until there were 2 children ( apparently that secures you the best financial deal) and then divorced him for the massive lump sum (rich UK man). All his friends had been telling him watch out and instead gullible him fell for the Russian make up and body and supposed subservience and obedience).
