AIBU to think that this should have been enough

I am separated from my husband, have been for just over a year. I am also a student. When I reapplied for my loan student finance cut it in half, going from £7k a year to just over £3k. This doesn't even cover my rent.
They said it was because I needed proof that we have separated with a solicitors letter. I'm a student, I can't afford that!! Everywhere I looked was in the hundreds for this letter. I do work but I'm on very very low income and can just about cover bills and rent.
On the phone The student loan helper said to send everything I had. So I sent wage slips, proof of change of address, proof that I live in a student house, tenenancu agreement, literally everything I could think of. Apparently this wasn't enough and they would only accept a solicitors letter. Aibu to think that all of that should have been enough proof?
I'm really stuck over what to do now, ex h won't help because it doesn't benefit him in any way.

Headdesk, i don't exactly post here often but if it is as you say, please feel free to PM me with exactly what The Student Loans people want in the letter. I have a number of friends who are in the legal profession and i'm sure that one off them would be happy to be in touch and able to knock you up a letter quick sharp. I'm also sure that they wouldn't neccesarily charge if your personal situation is as described.

You should be able to swear a statutory declaration. Most solicitors do stat dems for a standard £5 charge (or something like that - it's been ages since I've done one). Whereabouts in the country are you? I might know one near you who could help.

I am in bournemouth :)

Sorry, don't know anyone down there. Google statutory declarations. Draft a statement which says when you were married, when you separated etc. eg 1. my name is x.

  1. I married y on xxx
  2. We lived together at xx address from x to x
  3. We separated on xxx date and no longer live as husband and wife

Etc.

You'll need the formal declaration of truth wording at the end. Again, just Google it. Lots of examples.

Print out a copy, then take it to a local solicitor. You should get charged only £5 ish.
Hope that helps!

Sorry for crappy typing, in a rush!

Thank you that helps a lot!

We needed a stat declaration to get married abroad, we typed it up ourselves and a solicitor signed and stamped it for a fiver. We had to call a couple to find someone to do it that cheap but you should be able to find someone, I'd try the smaller firms rather than the big guys.

Hi, I need some advice for student finance.
Unfortunately my partner and I have split up. I'm worried about my money that I will receive from student finance. If I live in a rented place by myself will I get the full amount loan because I have no income at all at the minute.

Thank you for any help😊
