Seems a little over the top having a fight but surely this just goes to show people need to deal with kids on flights?

Actually it's a MNer's toddler who's running NATS!

BadtzMaru · 18/12/2014 22:00

OP do you have any children? I suspect not as you would be very very lucky to have had one who has never cried in a public place that might annoy other people and wouldn't be immediately pacified when "dealt with."

I've not read the article but wanted to share my similar story.

My friend and I met up for a cuppa before toddler group and when it was time to leave DS (3) was making a fuss as he hadn't finished all his drink yet. Being a toddler he only decided that it was necessary to finish it all once I had put DD (6 months at the time) in the sling, had my coat on and my friend and her DS was ready.

DD decided that waiting about was not what she wanted to do so started crying... a lot. I was trying to calm her down and hurry DS along when an old man sat at the table behind us said 'oh, just give her a good hiding'.

I know that not everyone wants to listen to someone else's baby crying but its not as if I was having the time of my life either. A bit of patience and understanding goes a long way.

Lord spare us, give 6 months old a good hiding . . .

You have to wonder whether he was a horrible child too!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 19/12/2014 08:35

Territ you do come out with some bollocks.

Fallingovercliffs · 19/12/2014 10:28

Well there were faults on both sides. The women who told the mother to shut her baby up, and then fully reclined their seats behaved appallingly. But the mother leaning over her seat and punching them wasn't exactly a model of good behaviour either.

Mind you, we only have the DM version of what actually transpired.

I usually assume that anyone puffing themselves up and telling me about their "rights" is an arsehole. There is a chance that they may later prove themselves to be warm, generous, caring individuals but IME not often.

DomiKatetrix · 19/12/2014 10:46

The comments are the best. Someone has suggested not allowing under-5s to fly. Great one, you moron.

Fallingovercliffs · 19/12/2014 10:47

I often wonder if the people who bang on about their 'right' to do a certain thing and how there's 'no law against it', are the same people who complain about the nanny state constantly bringing in new legislation about how people should behave.

NotSayingI'mBatman you just made me laugh for the first time today! Grin

I remember a talk at a toddler group with another parent who had similar happen - they had a happy sleepyish baby on their laps person in front reclined their chair and shouted at them about this older baby touching the blind.

Baby started screaming - and kept at it most of entire flight - all 8 hours.

The flight attendants and other passengers took the parents side - person had to have chair right up and was told to use head phone and got very terse comments from everyone when they tried to complain - the flight attendant also wouldn't move the person.

Parent said if they'd been left baby would have slept and everyone would have had a better flight - but they were grateful everyone else was sympathetic. They did all they could to settle the baby - but she did say she hoped the person who started it really enjoyed the 8 hours of screaming.

No, it just goes to show that some people travelling without children are violent, intolerant twats.

Nomama · 19/12/2014 11:33

Na! It shows you don't mess with mummy or she'll smack you up - bitch!

But as it is a DM tale of woe, I choose not to believe it happened as 'reported' - where's that sad face....Sad Sad
