To put a nappy on a child with norovirus

Have just been up all night with 6 year old DS2. He is very ill with all the classic symptoms. He covered his bed in projectile vomit last night. This morning the diarrhoea has started, he has pooed his pants twice now and wont sit on the toilet, he prefers to be in bed. I'm considering putting a nappy on him because he just doesn't have the strength to get from his bed to the toilet in time.

I would. Presumably he's been toilet trained for some time at 6 and isn't going to get confused. If he's happy to wear a nappy it'll make it much more pleasant for both of you. Hope he's better soon

Allisgood1 · 18/12/2014 09:02

Put a nappy on him. Hope he's better soon.

GailLondon · 18/12/2014 09:03

Poor thing. Why not do it if it makes both your lives easier.

ellenjames · 18/12/2014 09:10

I do if as poorly as you say, my ds2 is 5 x

Nymeria01 · 18/12/2014 09:22

This was all the convincing I needed. Have put a nappy on him and he doesn't seem to mind.

I think it depends whether they're vehemently opposed. I've done it with kids that age with their full support, and they were relieved not to have to worry about accidents. Hope he gets better soon.

marne2 · 18/12/2014 09:30

I have in the past, it makes things a whole lot easier to clean up and keeps it more contained.

gamerchick · 18/12/2014 09:32

I would. I even have a pack of tena nappies for me when I'm ill to give me extra seconds to get to the toilet.

Poor thing, hope he's on the mend soon.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully he will be better soon. I'm glad I put one on him, this way he can just rest until he is better.

Just a word of warning. Nappies don't always cope with bad diarrhoea in an older child so watch out for leaks. Hope he is better soon.

dingit · 18/12/2014 13:01

Mine are a bit older, so I always slip an old towel under them, much easier to whip off if there's an accident.

Nymeria01 · 18/12/2014 13:44

Yeah I'm keeping an eye out for leaks, I have told him to just say if he has an accident, but as he is sleepy I still check to see if it needs changing. Definetly going to put a towel under him.

Had an awful 24 hours. The vomiting started again last night and lasted till about 3. In the morning his nappy had exploded really really badly. Since then its been constant bouts of diarrhoea. He feels to week to get up but isn't that tiered, so he has been laying in bed and just tells me if his nappy is full. I hope I don't have another day of this.

I would even adults have them for these occasions

offtoseethewizard64 · 19/12/2014 18:48

Get a good barrier cream to put on him. As a PP said, the skin burns really quickly and easily with diarrhoea.
You can buy the paper bed pads (plastic backed) in Home Bargains if you have one nearby. Then you can dispose of them if he leaks rathe than having a towel to wash.
Hope he's better soon - and no one else catches it.

pipsy76 · 19/12/2014 18:50

I poo'd down our hallway when I had it last year so bring forth the nappy Confused

BlueberryWafer · 19/12/2014 18:57

Poor lad, hope he feels better soon. Definitely think a nappy is acceptable in this situation! As long as he is happy with it, obviously Smile

Marioswife · 30/03/2015 14:17

I don't know why people are so against nappies, do what works.

Purplepoodle · 30/03/2015 14:27

Bless him. He sounds really poorly if he can't even face getting up to go to the toilet. Nappy away, perhaps with a disposable bed mat too. Hope he feels better soon.

waithorse · 30/03/2015 14:30

Why on earth would anyone bump this ?

AnotherGirlsParadise · 30/03/2015 14:40

When I had noro, I wore pads purely because the diarrhoea was so awful I just couldn't make it to the toilet on time. It was embarrassing and miserable. YANBU for using a nappy - better than your poor DS feeling bad for soiling himself. Hugs to you both, noro is HORRIBLE - I genuinely thought I was dying when I had it.

Checked out OPs other posts and reported

Jonesy I never normally look at a persons other posts but these are very odd.
