to think that it's weird to call boys 'little men' - would you call a girl 'little woman'?

Just that, really. Obviously 'lil' man is entirely unreasonable.

Who cares, as long as it's not "little #@*%"

CalleighDoodle · 17/12/2014 23:58

I hate how school children are now 'young people.' They are CHILDREN!

helenenemo · 17/12/2014 23:59

You'd call a girl little lady?

Fevertree · 17/12/2014 23:59

People say 'little lady' though?

Bambambini · 18/12/2014 00:02

I think I've said "little man" or "young man" to my boys - you can all sneer or disapprove as much as you want. I'd be a sheep if I really gave a shit.

Bambambini · 18/12/2014 00:03

"Little woman" was one of my favourite all time series of books - so I might have actually.

LST · 18/12/2014 00:03

I've got 2 little men and my besr friend has a little lady.

Glad it bothers you so much.... Hmm

FannyFifer · 18/12/2014 00:05

Wee man or little lady.

TheNewStatesman · 18/12/2014 00:08

Yes, it's twee. Children/kids/boys/girls!

"Young man" is surely what you use when you are telling someone off?

I also hate "children" for over 13s. It's so condescending.

Mousefinkle · 18/12/2014 00:11

I only say young man sometimes to my DS when he's being naughty. "don't you even think about it young man", gosh- I sound like my mother Grin.

I've never said little man, lil man, little lady, little woman or any variants though. It is weird. Little man reminds me of that really cringeworthy movie that came out a few years ago...

turdfairynomore · 18/12/2014 00:15

DS17 is known as "wee man" on hockey pitch! It's even on back of his shirts!!!

SoonToBeSix · 18/12/2014 00:18

Over 13's are children though.

calmexterior · 18/12/2014 00:19

Mini man here.

Wink
messyisthenewtidy · 18/12/2014 00:20

I've often thought the same OP. You hear "big man" or "little man" but never "little woman" and definitely not "big woman"!

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 18/12/2014 00:28

I call DD 'little lady'.

ProcessYellowC · 18/12/2014 00:32

Jeepers if it's weird to call them little man what about little hobbit (DS put in a special request instead of little poppet)?

What about the book? It is much better known than Little Men.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/12/2014 00:46

Young lady is quite normal isn't it? We were definitely referred to as young ladies at school (generally girls when we were younger).

messyisthenewtidy · 18/12/2014 00:53

Yes but no one calls girls "little women". Hell people don't even call women women. Girls are girls until they become ladies. Boys become men.

DustyCropHopper · 18/12/2014 00:54

2 little men and one little lady here, really couldn't care less what others think of it!

I have a 20 week old little man, don't know why I just always called him that from finding out at the ultrasound. I like it!
