AIBU or is it OK for neighbours to play their euphonium

At 11.20pm?

We live in a Victoria terrace and they have just started playing. I can (unfortunately) hear every note from my sitting room.

I can't say anything to them, I don't know them well and don't want to knock on their door. AIBU or is it an ok thing to do at this time of day? Maybe I should just be more tolerant? And fume less?

I wouldn't dream of letting my kids practice their piano late in the evening, assuming they can be heard next door. How can I ever let them know that this has wound me up no end?

But the neighbours might do, as I do. The officially guidance is 7am because it presumes people work 9-5 Monday-Friday. I work shifts, so someone playing piano at 8am on one of those days would annoy the life out of me.

Could be worse, could be an alpenhorn. You wouldn't like that at all.

They were unreasonable but perhaps it was a festive one-off. I'd overlook it, but if it happens again, have a word face to face.

I think 8am is too early for piano pra tice or DIY or lawn mowing etc.

The una corda pedal doesn't really make loud piano playing much quieter though does it? It's not a mute. Surely it changes the quality of the sound, rather than volume. I expect they've just heard your children practising early and think you share their relaxed attitude to practice time. They're probably not doing it as a tit-for-tat thing.

Greys - good point. I would hope that I knew my neighbours well enough to know they worked shifts.

But then, if someone worked shifts and had to sleep during the day, then any time could be anti-social

You know the best plan?

To get an electric piano - then they can wear headphones and no one needs to be disturbed
