I have in the last week developed floaters in my right eye, they aren't huge but they extremely irritating.
I didn't think to much of it, until I mentioned it in passing to a friend who told me her mum had the same and it turned out to be a detached retina and she needed surgery. So then I was worried, rang my opticians but they can't fit me in until Friday. I've googled (because I am a dick) and freaked myself out because it says being very short sighted makes it more likely, and that it should be seen straight away.
Should I see my doctor? Or am I being insane??

Good luck with your surgery. I had to have all 7 of my ops done under local as I was pregnant at the time and no painkillers afterwards Hmm. Mine was detachment due to shortsightedness Hmm Bristol eye hospital were fantastic

Hope you are OK nobody, at least it's all over and done with fairly quickly My tear was quite big and it just had to get done, at least it cured my fear of eye surgery - no choice! Fingers crossed for you.

Surgery all done. It wasn't as bad as I feared. Was sedated so fairly away with the fairies. Have a huge patch on it now and I'm to lie on my right side for the next week at least I'm allowed to get up for 10 mins every hour. Christmas is gonna be interesting in Chez Nobody this year!
Thanks for everyone's advice and well wishes x

Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you feared. Are you back at home? gosh to lying on your side for a week and only getting up for 10 minutes an hourShock Shock

NobodyLivesHere · 17/12/2014 22:57

No I'm staying in over night because i went a bit weird after the sedation.
It's because they injected a bubble of gas into my eye that needs to be in a certain position to heal the tear. I'm a single parent too. Luckily my ex has been great and is off over Xmas any way or I don't know whst I'd do!

As far as I know with floaters, one or two are fine, and very common. A bunch out of no where get looked at. I got one a few months ago... god it's annoying!! had nothing before or since, so I've left it. If it was more than one that appeared though I'd deffo get it checked out :)

I'd go to one of those free appointments they sometimes do at the opticians and mention it there.
