Been for a weekend away with the family. We got home late and we had cheese and biscuits as a kind of supper. I wasn't very hungry so I just had a couple of grapes.

My bil then said - Charl thats the healthiest thing I've ever seen you eat.

He didn't say it in a jokey way either.

I'm around a size 12 and I don't eat bad, I always eat fruit and veg every day.

Am I too sensitive? I just wouldn't dream of commenting on what people eat or their habits. Especially when everyone is sat around the table together.

I think he was rude actually and I can see why you felt a bit embarrassed that he said it in front of everyone, especially if you're already a little sensitive about your weight. By feigning shock at the sight of you eating a piece of fruit he's implying that you have a crap diet, which is none of his business and unlikely to be true since you're a perfectly healthy size 12. I've never understood why people feel that it's OK to comment on what others are eating. There's a girl at work who always feels the need to comment on how healthy/unhealthy other people's lunches are and it's rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way.

Way too sensitive. It's a throwaway nothing kind of remark.

YABU to be sensitive about your weight when you are only a size 12!!

Hatespiders · 15/12/2014 08:22

I always believe in being direct and straightforward. Did you reply to him? I'd have said something, in a calm voice, such as, "Whatever do you mean BIL? You know very well I eat healthily!" It's better than seething inside, and would have given him a chance to clarify eg 'just kidding' or 'sorry, you're right SIL'.

I eat very unhealthily, so I'd have had to grin and carry on eating my buttered crumpet!

He sounds rude but as others said, let this go. Size 12 is not fat so you don't really need to be sensitive about your weight. He probably didn't mean it to be a slight or a dig. If you weren't sensitive about your weight, you would have laughed that comment off I am sure.
