To think £58 per ticket is excessive for a pantomime??

Nativity3 · 12/12/2014 18:45

It's got one 'star' in it who I wouldn't class as particularly famous but we will be in that area over Christmas and wanted to take the dc. The tickets are £58 each!!! Shock

This is more than I pay for a West End show... Anyone else think this is excessive? The star isn't even anyone 'big' so I can't understand it. I tried to look for seats with a poorer view but they were still £49! Shock

We saw Babes in the Wood with Roy Castle many some years ago at Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Can't remember what it cost because my parents bought the tickets for me, my X and two DCs and themselves. My DS (7) got the 'volunteer' opportunity to 'perform' with Roy Castle!

I certainly wouldn't pay £58 for a ticket to anywhere.

KaelyLanglaise · 13/12/2014 16:55

I'm going to the same one as PureMorning (guessing by the cast list) and I thought £20 was pretty expensive.. given that's £100 for a family of 5. £58 is ridiculous!

Also going to see a pantomime on ice, which is £12.95 each and I'm quite excited about because it will be a bit different.

greenfolder · 13/12/2014 17:15

jeez- we do Chickenshed each year - £40 is for the 3 of us. We usually do local am- dram, the more am the better. we all enjoy that hugely.

used to go to the local theatre one, but found paying £30 ish each for tickets totally ott. funily enough went back to this yesterday as dd got tickets for a tenner through brownies. Really enjoyed it with our view from the gods, but it was great value for money- spend 3 times the money would not have made it 3 times as good

I just love Panto!! Seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarves twice in the last week.Last weekend in Manchester with Priscilla Presley and Warwick Davies and just got back from Runcorn from one with no "celebrities". Both were fantastic and we loved every minute. Not sure I'd pay £50+ for a ticket though.

Melawen · 13/12/2014 17:19

Blimey and I thought mine was expensive - nearly £100 for three adults and a child, but I'm hoping it will be good as it's Dick Whittington with Nigel Havers as king rat!

chubbymummy · 13/12/2014 17:27

Marylou, I thought the Runcorn one had Kim Woodburn in it, from 'How clean is your home' and 'I'm a Celebrity'. Does it not?

Marylou2 · 13/12/2014 17:35

Unfortunately she is ill and wasn't in it today. There was a sign in the foyer. I hope she's better soon. The Panto was still very enjoyable.

SmileAndNod · 13/12/2014 17:41

32.50 each for the circle in Southampton. For that you get Brian Conley and Got Wan. I would love to take the children to panto one day but for five of us that will be an expensive afternoon outXmas Shock

threepiecesuite · 13/12/2014 17:48

I got mine for £8 each on Groupon Grin
I think it is £42 for a family of 4 usually.

Ex Corrie bloke and local radio celebrity and a Nolan.
2 hours of pretty good quality, going on Sat, can't wait!

Nativity3 · 13/12/2014 19:43

I'm going to try groupon! Smile

Our theatre in Norwich has two resident Panto players and they're always brilliant. The B-list stars are just there as names. These two regulars are so funny they make you die. Lots of innuendo and double-entendre, plus always a water slapstick scene. One of them is always the 'dame'. They've apparently incorporated them into Peter Pan, which is actually a play not a Panto

One of the regulars is our friend. He's bloody hilarious

Gawjushun · 13/12/2014 20:01

£58 is west end play or musical prices! You could even get a 'cheap' seat at the Royal Opera House for that. Save the money and go see something decent in the new year instead.

Hatespiders · 13/12/2014 20:43

HouseBaelish, it must either be Richard Gauntlett or Andre Vincent. How fabulous that one of them is your friend! They are so good that they absolutely make the panto for us. My dh had never seen a Panto before (Ivorian) and halfway through that first show years ago he turned to me and whispered, "I am wondering...is that lady in a big dress perhaps... a man??" He was amazed by the idea of a pantomime dame. He had his mouth open the whole time and was entranced. He wanted to go again the next night, but of course all the tickets sell out weeks beforehand. He's all a-quiver this year about Peter Pan. (Going in early January)

catsmother · 13/12/2014 21:21

Ours are £17.50 for front row seats - one ex-Eastenders 'star' .... but have to say, the 'Dame' makes the panto for us as 'she' is so brilliant. Have seen some dreadful pantos in my time but decided to try our local theatre 5 years ago and have been every year since as was very impressed with Dame, sets, variety of jokes (lots of 'local' references, lots of topical stuff and a bit of double entendre for adults but nothing offensive, good special effects and so on) and production generally. It really is genuinely very good and lots of laugh out loud moments - believe me, it takes a lot to get me to do that! Think the same Dame, who also directs, returning to this theatre for over 20 years, really helps as there's a familiarity with the audience.

But £58 ! ..... that's awful, West End prices for the most spectacular of productions which most pantos would never live up to. Would love to know where it is.

Mrmonkey · 13/12/2014 22:27

We have just paid £36 for 4 people to see Peter Pan at Milton Keynes with Bradley Walsh and the dance group Flawless. Admittedly we were as far back as possible but we still had an amazing view and my 3 year old disturbed no one when she stood on her chair and danced along. It was an amazing production and as my dm said (it was part of her Xmas present from us) she would have paid so much more just to see the excitement on my dds face.

ooerrmissus · 13/12/2014 22:42

£58!!!!!! We are going to see the 'grand Dame of the North' (according to the Sunday times) berwick kaler in York as usual and it costs £30 a head. It's the usual old rubbish but all us babbies and bairns love it.

You have no idea what battles I had with autocorrect on that last sentence.

WoodenGo · 13/12/2014 22:51

No Panto for us this year, it's not Christmas for me without the panto Sad.

My favourite one was Peter Pan a few years ago with Brian Blessed as Captain Hook. He was hilarious, was chatting up a couple of old ladies down the front. Worst was David Essex, who I was in love with back in the day. He couldn't have looked more bored.

Nanny0gg · 13/12/2014 22:52

Kevin Kennedy (Corrie?) and Sid Sloane (CBeebies?) are in Peter Pan in Norwich.

Ooh! I love Sid Sloane. Took DGC to see him in his own show after he left CBeebies and he was brilliant with the children afterwards. Lots of photos and autographs.

Only CBeebies presenter with any form of rhythm for the daft dances they would do.

ArchangelGallic · 13/12/2014 23:00

We've got The Hoff in ours and tickets were around £30 but cheapest around £20 I believe.

£58 is extortionate no matter who the star is.....want to know now though!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/12/2014 23:01

£5 is too much for a pantomime IMHO. A form of entertainment I have always loathed from the age of about five.
