Where to go for a pre teen bra?

Sorry, not remotely an AIBU, but I'm totally posting here for traffic.

My dd1 has just turned 10 but is already very developed. She has been in crop tops for a couple of years but I'm starting to think that she should be in a proper bra now. I'd make a guess that she would already be a b cup, but she's also very slim so she'd be a tiny back size.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where is a good place to go for a first Bra?

M&S measured me as a 34A, 15 years of backache later I find I'm a 28D.

WillWorkForMoney · 12/12/2014 09:00

Jinglebells, no i think she was serious, was rattling on for ages about it. I wasn't 100% sure so didn't want to challenge her. My nan was with me and was agreeing with her too, so i was outnumbered lol.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/12/2014 09:10

Basic starting point is that underbust in inches is band sizr and each inch difference between thst and overbust is a cup size. Explained better on the link. But ironically although asda woman was talking nonsense she might have been right that going up in the cup was a better idea. Aa basically means less than one inch difference between overbust and underbust

WillWorkForMoney · 12/12/2014 09:37

Btw asda didnt have any. The lady said it was because of the big hoo-haa about young girls wearing "sexy" underwear a few years back. But why stop selling normal bras too?

Tsoukalosy · 12/12/2014 11:50

Asda lady sounds completley bonkers Grin

Ive posted before looking for advice as DD1 is very thin, she has now got a bit of shape but we are having to buy bra a like tops from M & Co as she needs a 24 back so there is no way anything in first bra ranges will do.
She is 13 and really petite but there must be other younger girls a similar size who need bras, can't understand why someone doesn't corner what is obviously a gap in the market.

I might give Michelle Mone a call Grin

Theas18 · 12/12/2014 23:53

Jbck it is indeed a huge gap in the market. If you are properly fitted even us adult fatties come in at a 34 back a lot of the time so IMHO there isn't a huge demand for 40 plus back bras surely .

If I wear a 34 back there are really very few young teens that look that size around that I meet - so who wears the 34aa correctly fitting? ( or even the a?).... I reckon teen bras need to start at a 24 in small cups with a good range of sizes in 26 and 28.

Trouble is, if no one fits these slim girls properly , because , well what's the point, you can't buy that size, then there will never be a demand...

Anyone want to guess Kate middletons non pregnant bra size or does that get you thrown into the tower? Stunning but not an ounce of fat on her. Bet she's a 28 back or even a 26 but rigby and peller I assume hand make her bras so no problem. Many slim and gorgeous women must be her size...

( am I the only one who envisages r&p having secret umm busts of the royal busts like shoe lasts to make the bras on.... Snigger)

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/12/2014 00:35

The thing is a 28 isn't necessarily that small, it depends on your shape. I go down to a 28 band when I'm about a size 12ish. There is definitely a need for smaller bands.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 13/12/2014 14:03

John Lewis do a range starting at 24inch, but it has got them in to trouble Sorry Daily Mail Link due to wrongly listing them online. However, they may still have the items instore and they may be suitable for a slender teen.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 13/12/2014 14:17

BTW, I do deeply apologise for the article, it clearly ignores the fact that it was an error and JL apologised for it. But it still stands that they offer a range of starter bras from small sizes (though their reporter believes it would fit a 2 year old.... that remains to be seen they may be correct) but it might be worth a look.
My DD is a 22inch chest (wears age 10- 11 clothing), so that bra they have a go about would probably fit her...

fatlazymummy · 13/12/2014 14:17

I bought my daughters first bras from peacocks. They started at 28 AA. She was absolutely tiny at the time, though older than your daughter (I think she was 12 at the time). I find peacocks childrens clothes quite slim fitting.

ghostyslovesheep · 13/12/2014 14:55

M+S are great - always had good service and fitting there - they where the first to point out to me that bra sizes aren't fixed and vary from style to style - I range between a 32C and 34 DD depending on style

their teen range is nice

AuntieStella · 13/12/2014 14:56

There was a MNet thread about the wrongly listed floral bras. The same bras in plain white, which never had a listing error, had 28 inch as smallest band.

Could you link the bras you found on 24 inch princess ? I hunted high and low for one earlier this year with no result.

IDontDoIroning · 13/12/2014 15:13

I will second peacocks

AuntieStella · 13/12/2014 16:30

I've just looked at Peacocks and didn't find any bras below a 28 inch band.

Anyone know of any teen bras currently on sale in 24 (or 26) band? Ideally, 24B.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 13/12/2014 17:19

Sorry I miss read the article. I thought it said the bras started at 20inch but have re-read it seems they are listed as 28inch but measure up smaller at more like 22inch (which may fit a 24inch- though where I thought I read they stocked 24inch I don't know).
It may be worth a try if your passing if they come up so much smaller though.
My error there, yes I see the irony.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 13/12/2014 17:32

Here is one listed as from 26inch if you read the size guide. May be worth a look.
That site has a few options of style and colour - I just looked at that one for sizing - so they do white etc. They stock pre teen bras for 9-13 year olds. Not sure its exactly what you wanted as no cup sizes though.
The ones with cup sizes do start at 28inch.
