To ask how clean you should leave your house when you move ?

We are moving tomorrow, am I meant to deep clean the whole place ? It's tidy etc, ovens cleaned, kitchen cupboards, bathroom cleaned from top to bottom , will Hoover and give the place a polish. That's enough, right ? My mum told me I should be getting a cleaning company in for a deep clean, really?

Clean enough so the people who are moving in walk through the door, heave a sign of relief and go "Oh, good. I don't have to clean before we move in.".

What PurpleCrazyHorse said.

It's really nice to move into a house that someone has made an effort to leave clean and tidy. You'd probably give everywhere a quick wipe down regardless. If your carpets are heavily soiled and were not when it was viewed then I'd consider that but mostly it's running the hoover around when the place has been emptied and you could get a cleaner in for an hour to do it if you want to leave ahead of the removal van.

We moved into a filthy house, which was left flea infested to boot so we were eaten alive when they left with their cats. Foul.

If your mum is so concerned, ask her to give you a hand or Bog Off! Grin

Or clean enough that the removal men don't approach you to say "We've had a look at the house and it doesn't look like they've given it much of a clean. Would it help if we went and got some lunch and gave you a 30 mins head start?" All in a pitying head shaking fashion.......

You sound like you've done loads OP! I'm sure it looks great. I'd just second the advice others have given of running the hoover around when it's empty just before you leave. Gets rid of any debris from the removal men, and it's kind of a nice way of saying goodbye to a house too (soppy sod).

Thanks everyone. Don't feel and for not getting professional cleaners in.
Going to leave it as clean as possible, kind of the clean I made it for viewings which took hours each time!
Like the idea of hoovering just before I leave, I too am a soppy sod and will be sad to see the place go!

I would assume a deep clean would be necessary if you're showing the house. Can you include it as part of the selling price?

Are deep cleans expensive over there? Here you can get a nice one for about $50-$100. We got one for our apartments before moving out so we'd get our deposit back.

I always leave a sold house spotless but no bastard that I've bought from ever does the same! So I get to spend another few days cleaning where I've moved to. The joys.
