I'm currently on holiday in the Caribbean (first time ever) and I want to post updates etc to Facebook

But because there have been a number of break ins in my areas (and I wouldn't advertise my.house as empty anyway) I'm not able to share my excitement at being on a beach on bloody December! !

And the incongruity of Christmas songs on a steel band and carols when I am melting. .

Lucky you :) I hope you have a wonderful holiday and come back with a beautiful tan for Christmas. I love the way your sheer delight in your holiday comes across, never mind fb just think of the pleasure you will have sharing in one big post when you get home.

Screenclean · 11/12/2014 08:00

This is a joke right?

MissMarplesBloomers · 11/12/2014 08:06

Stealth boast. Grin

Just enjoy your bloody holiday & put your phone away!!

Talk to people....relax..... read....sleep...... forget the outside world, it's awful weather back home so enjoy the sun while you can!

formerbabe · 11/12/2014 09:20

Well if your biggest problem is that you can't tell people (who probably arent even bothered) you are on holiday and rub it in their faces then count yourself lucky.

atticusclaw · 11/12/2014 09:25

Enjoy your holiday. Forget all this narcissistic "look at me" behaviour which is so prevalent nowadays.

In any event the users of Facebook aren't really bothered about what you're doing, they're interested in telling everyone about what THEY are doing.

dexter73, fb can be anon too, after all fb only has the details on it that we put on it

I went to Egypt in the summer for 2 weeks. I never went on the Internet once - it was lovely. Enjoy your holiday and stop worrying about updating social media.

CitronVert · 11/12/2014 11:59

One of my fb friends is currently on holiday in an exotic location. She posts about 5 times a day. Pictures of meals, cocktails, beaches, sunsets. I'm bloody sick of it now as its clogging up my feed (which by rights should be full of people complaining about the weather/being full of cold/Christmas shopping nightmares etc.)

dexter73 · 11/12/2014 12:14

differentnameforthis - but what you wrote didn't really make much sense to me. MN isn't private but you are posting under a made-up name so nobody knows who you are. On FB you generally post under your own name and your friends can see your posts so I don't get what the irony is.

MissMarplesBloomers

About as stealth-like as a nuclear bomb Grin

whois · 11/12/2014 12:19

Why is lying on a beach and dicking around on the net any different to flicking through a light novel, or any of the other things one does on holiday without actually doing anything?

It's not. Bust people like to be oh so superior "well I have FAR too much fun on holiday to update Facebook" usually means hotel has no wifi, your kids are too small to be safe so you're actually having a crap timing watching them to make sure they don't drown all the time, or yoi're not actually having a fun time :-)

raltheraffe · 11/12/2014 12:22

Please moderators I have asked for an emoticon before of a tiny violin, this is a case where we definitely need one

SparkleZilla · 11/12/2014 12:28

Yeah I get the need for the tiny violin xx

I was planning on using my kobo on the beach, however I managed to break it on the plane so am using my tablet/phone to read, which is connected to wifi

I like browsing the Web and Facebook, it's interesting and I do it for fun...

I know it's a first world problem, I know about fb private settings, but am still being careful/paranoid

(Not much stealth about it xx)

I think you should just forget facebook and just enjoy your holiday.

Tinkerball · 11/12/2014 14:58

You can do Facebook and enjoy your holiday to, the two aren't mutually exclusive! I don't see it as any other way of relaxing on holiday which we all do, regardless of the location.
