I have been breastfeeding our last child for 2 years now. I have some breastfeeding groups on my newsfeed and I noticed a story on there. It related to a column in the sun where Jeremy Clarkson likened breadtfeeding to urinating. Obviusly I was unimpressed with this and mentioned itto dh. His response was I like Jc because he is not afraid to say what he thinks. I bet a certain parenting site complaiined and implied thst site was millitant. aibu to be disappointed by this response.

funnily enough December12 - I don't think it is his job to do that.. he's supposedly a presenter on a car show isn't he?

dirkdiggler1 · 08/12/2014 12:32

He should be bloody PM!

december12 · 08/12/2014 12:33

No, he's a journalist.

BringMeTea · 08/12/2014 12:47

Grin sure he is... Pulitzer in due course.

thats what I thought bbc. I am not really surrprised by jc comment but instead dh was making out that the group moaning abou the remark was in the the wrong.

Made me laugh... this rather than JC.

He said that breastfeeding is as natural as taking a leak.

Now, if anyone had come on here and said breastfeeding is an unnatural act, what do you think the response would have been?

He said there is nothing clever about breastfeeding... well, yes! Clever is rocket science, brain surgery, calculus, making a sewing machine work how you want it to... breastfeeding is a natural act (given that sometimes it just won't work for any given individual)...

He said don't do it the menfolk are watching... yes! He acknowledged that the covetous little boy in every man finds the sight of another little body sucking at his boobs is unsettling... well, it just is for some men! What are you going to do about that? It too is a natural response, for some men!

Clarkson is what he is! Unreconstructed media maven/neanderthal. It is his persona, what makes him a living. Read or ignore - your choice.

But he has done one brilliantly good thing... put breastfeeding out there in a way that will make a lot of men think twice... something all the previous female writing and bleating on both sides of the argument hasn't been successful in doing!

I thought I'd read it before... look at the dates of the comments... The Sun is recycling!

Thi was just a small comment in his column re Claridges incident. He just said that it is natural like urinating but when uninating we go to a little room and do it in private.

Yes, Nomama, the outrage is ridiculous. Love him or loathe him, his article was in support of breastfeeding.

OfaFrenchMind · 08/12/2014 13:31

BF lobby loves to be martyred. Even by its own supporters. I would love to support them, but the thin skin and disregard of civility they display put me off.

belle1974 · 09/12/2014 20:06

it was the idea that breastfeeding should be done in private that I objected to. It definately wasn't supportive of the right to breastfeed anywhere.
