"We didn't need anything. "

"We needed everything"

"I'm not going to be the person you expect me to be"

As Catherine Tate's nan would say, "What a load of old shit!"

AIBU to feel all the meaningless plop spouted out by models / actors in perfume ads is beyond irritating?

I hate the one where Cate Blanchet makes funny faces while saying Si to something and trying to mime the something.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 07/12/2014 09:12

Normally I go a bit unnecessary for Gaspard Ulliel (Bleu de Chanel guy), but even I find him cringey in that advert.

As for the Keira/Scarlett/Gisele ads... oh please do fuck off. Especially the Scarlett one, with acting even worse than usual!

livelablove · 07/12/2014 09:20

Yy to the pp who said that creepy version of You're the one that I want makes you want to rush out and gets restraining order Grin.

southeastastra · 07/12/2014 09:21

I quite like them but the Scarlett Johansson one cracks me up before she says we needed everything she pulls the weirdest funniest face ever

fairgame · 07/12/2014 09:38

"I'm not going to be the person you expect me to be"
I really don't get this advert. DP tried to explain it but i still don't get it. The whole thing with the woman and the walls falling down i just don't get it.

I don't like that one with the girl rolling around all giggly on the bed and the man with the gruff voice telling her to pick up the phone. Just answer the phone ffs!

The invictus advert on the other hand i absolutely love. That man is hot Blush

Browneyesblue · 07/12/2014 09:50

I saw the Chloe stalker advert and wondered wtf they were thinking.

TheSpottedZebra · 07/12/2014 10:21

There's one with Chris Pine (star trek reboot chap) in it, it's an Armani something one. He's very pretty, but in one shot his head looks the oddest shape. So now I watch it for that one bit.

And the Gerard Butler one for Boss - 'Man of Today'. He strides about being all boss like. Odd casting, as he's known for being something of a washed up lechy boozer.

Bluestocking · 07/12/2014 10:48

I've just watched the Chanel No 5 one. What a load of old SHIT! Did you notice the way the shot with the little girl off to school is set up to cut the nanny's head off?

AsBrightAsAJewel · 07/12/2014 10:55

Chloe one seems a little less scary in the newer edit, but it still gives me the creeps. It would put me off buying the perfume even if I was interested in it!

Bluestocking · 07/12/2014 10:57

And SpottedZebra, YY to G Butler being an irredeemably sleazy drunk. I don't understand all the GB love on MN.

Bragadocia · 07/12/2014 10:58

I used to love the perfume ads in the run up to Christmas when I was a kid, things like this still stick in my mind

Now they are too ambitious, and end up just being bizarre. They aren't promoting something that makes you want to buy into it, unlike the glamour of the 80s ads (such as the above Chanel one). The current batch just bewilder you!

specialsubject · 07/12/2014 11:57

as far as I can work out, perfume makes all your clothes fall off to be replaced by a tinfoil dress and fugly high heels, and you then end up doing a silly duck walk.

as proved on another thread - they all smell awful anyway!

Bambambini · 07/12/2014 12:53

Wanky crap but I admit Charlize Theron striding down that catwalk all shimmering gold is dazzlingly beautiful.

The new Rob Patinson ad - don't mind it too much and never realised what so many see in him but he is hot in this one.

Bambambini · 07/12/2014 12:56

easily the best aftershave ad ever - love it!
