To have thought this was rude?

At work earlier, myself and another colleague were talking to the daughter of a lady who uses the services.

Colleague leaned over to do something (part of her job,) and the daughter said, 'ugh, you have been eating garlic haven't you, I can smell it.'

Colleague just said she'd had chilli chicken for lunch but afterwards we both said how rude it was!

Oh please. The English are so obsessed with blandness. Its only because everyone is afraid of flavour that garlic is an unfamilar non white-haired mince and potatoes with no onions old Daily Mail shires sort of way.

Cauliflowersneeze1 · 04/12/2014 21:56

sparklecrates what a crock of shit

ASunnyTiger · 04/12/2014 22:00

I thought we were obsessed with adopting every one else's cuisine? Was a memo sent out that didn't reach me? Please, I must know so I can suitably re-conform with every one else.

Sparkle you mean couchy? Grin

I am a student nurse, I never eat garlic any closer than 48 hours before a shift!

That is how it should be. I need to consider those I am caring for. I make sure I wash, use deodorant and don't eat smelly foods, so I do not inflict nasty smells on to people.

You may not be a carer, but you are working closely with someone who 'uses the services', so are in a caring role, working closely with the public, even if you are not a carer. A bit of consideration for them in what you eat is not a big step to take but can make all the difference between a good experience and a bad one!

Yanbu. It was a rude thing to say.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 04/12/2014 23:57

And great news that there are so many fragrant carers here.
But that doesn't mean its polite to comment in the way as described by the OP

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 04/12/2014 23:57

It was a rude comment.

throwinshapes · 05/12/2014 00:15

I eat lashings of garlic most days and couldn't give a fiddlers fart for how my breath smells.
I like my healthy diet.
Live with it, people of my world, or fuck off.

NewNamePlease · 05/12/2014 00:30

It was rude to mention it.

however · 05/12/2014 01:32

It was rude. What happened was the result of living and working in a society where people eat all sorts of things, including garlic.

kittykathat · 05/12/2014 01:34
