To hate it when people refer to little girls as 'Little Ladies'?

It just sounds.....wrong!

Someone I know always refers to her baby girl as a little lady and in every photo she puts on Facebook there is a caption referring to her as Little Lady. Very irritating.

I don't like it much.

Or little lords.

bamboostalks · 03/12/2014 15:26

Totally agree. It is naff in the extreme. They are girls end of. I never use the term for grown women either, think it is sexist and dated.

Yabu.

Do people actively search for things to irritate them these days?

JohnFarleysRuskin · 03/12/2014 15:42

Not at all, irritating things just leap out at me all the time!

TSSDNCOP · 03/12/2014 15:45

Little Man gives me rage.

Just. Stop. It.

Jackie0 · 03/12/2014 15:47

I often refer to people ( inc children) with various terms of endearment because my peri menopausal brain is wiping my memory Blush

AWombWithoutAFoof · 03/12/2014 15:50

It's truly hideous. It's "wee woman" here in NI though, which I love, it makes me think of tiny little middle aged women in aprons. Grin

OwlCapone · 03/12/2014 15:55

How on earth is "ladies" sexist?

ithoughtofitfirst · 03/12/2014 16:22

I normally hate things like that but i've got a newborn dd and i think of her as a little lady. I never call her that though. I normally call her poo face.

Catmint · 03/12/2014 16:25

I don't like it either,OP. Or little man either.

Just let them be children, fgs!

Fallingovercliffs · 03/12/2014 16:49

It sounds okay and kind of quaint when old people say it.

But parents talking about 'my little man' or 'our little lady' do sound a bit irritating. Likewise 'mini me'.

I do smile when someone refers to their demanding baby or toddler as 'the lord and master' or 'her ladyship' though.

ReggieJones · 03/12/2014 16:56

My Grandma used to refer to me as her 'little lady'. It was sweet

Allstoppedup · 03/12/2014 17:03

It seems to get up lots of people's noses' on mumsnet for some reason.

I have called my son Little Man from when he was born. It's an affectionate nickname that our whole family use now.I do find myself feeling paranoid when I call it him in front of strangers in case they are of the judgy mumsnet poster variety...

He IS in fact a little man so I don't see how it's THAT terrible.

SlimJiminy · 03/12/2014 17:04

Nowhere near as bad as "out for the day with my gorgeous princess"

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 03/12/2014 17:14

Irritating and naff.
I don't want to be called a lady either.

Cocochanel98 · 03/12/2014 17:14

My vet calls my cat "little lady", always thought that was sweet.

kittykathat · 03/12/2014 17:19
