AIBU to ask someone not to choose to sit next to me on a very quiet train and then start flossing their teeth?!?!

Someone putting makeup on wouldn't bother me. Someone flicking around bits of half chewed gristle from between their teeth most definitely would.

SandorClegane · 05/12/2014 16:55

It wasn't on a train but I did once witness a man in a very smart suit standing in the street, head tipped right back, pouring cold baked beans out of the tin directly into his mouth.

Kiffykaffycoffee · 05/12/2014 17:54

Were there any twanging noises ? Slurping noises? Technically you can do anything in a quiet carriage as long as it's quiet ... Pretty yuk though.

biggles50 · 05/12/2014 20:32

I think the gross thing about flossing is that you're cleaning between your teeth to get rid of the gunk. It's just too personal to be doing it in public. But you have to consider her state of mind there might be some issues. I'd be grossed out.

Snatchoo · 05/12/2014 20:42

My dad did this Blush. Took me out for a pub lunch the day I graduated (so busy everywhere) and flossed his teeth in the pub garden!

I nearly died of embarrassment. I asked him to stop, he wouldn't on the grounds that if smoking is allowed outside then so is flossing.

carabos · 05/12/2014 20:44

She's probably got the same hygienist as me. Mine told me last week to keep the interdental brush on me at all times and take every opportunity to clean in the gaps. Hmm.

She reminded me of the midwives we had back in the day who used to send us home with instructions to do our pelvic floor exercises while standing at the bus stop to "save time". It was never explained where you were meant to do them if you didn't use public transport.

Suefla62 · 05/12/2014 20:55

Take out your phone and " talk to a friend" "can you believe it she's doing it again, that minging woman I told you about, who flosses her teeth on the train". Make sure she can hear you laughing about her.

MistyMeena · 06/12/2014 17:24

Ewwww! YANBU. What is WRONG with some people?

Yarp · 06/12/2014 17:26

Good Lord, I thought nail cutting and eyebrow tweezing were bad enough. seen both of those.

gita7007 · 07/12/2014 09:13

that would seriously pee me off.

I would have said something or moved.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/12/2014 09:34

I wouldn't haven't been able to stop myself saying "do you seriously think what you are doing is normal".

vitabrits · 07/12/2014 09:49

That's disgusting :)

Staywithme · 07/12/2014 09:51

I would just look at her and make very loud retching noises. Repeat as necessary until she takes the hint.

That's disgusting.
It drives me mad when someone sits next to me on an empty train
