To think the pharmacist should concentrate when dispensing my script?

Okay, went in to get a couple of scripts filled at local pharmacy earlier. Pharmacist was discussing Christmas holidays ( who was going where when) eating rum balls with assistant and then everyone went over to look at the calendar. There seemed to be some misunderstanding just revealed. This was both Pharmacists and assistant. Meanwhile.......Am I being a crotchety old woman? Script is fine, but still.

it's a known fact that many surgeons like music and chat as they work rather than sober silence:people aren't all the same in terms of what helps their concrntration

Not many surgeons have music on. DH doesn't, and only a few of his colleagues do. It's not as common as tv would suggest!

Yanbu. Not just because of the concentration (although obviously that's v. important) but also it's such shoddy customer service. I would never have a natter while a customer was stood waiting, but it seems to be becoming more common lately.

I think it's discourteous to be chatting to other staff over the heads of a customer. You can make the customer feel like a bloody nuisance. My dh won't let this stuff go and says really loudly "I'm so sorry to have interrupted your private conversation if you'll just allow me to purchase this item I'll be out of your way and you can get back to it." Works a treat because he says so politely but loudly.

I agree that they should concentrate while dispensing and not eat/talk. Regarding customer service though, if the pharmacist was eating he/she was probably having a break which I think is acceptable. Although it would be better to do this while a customer is not in the shop it may not always be possible if it's a very busy shop.I presume that they were in the dispensary rather than at the counter so not actually chatting in front of you.

whatever5 : I agree with you
grokette :you're correct about the music I'm sure but I know for a fact that surgeons OFTEN used to CHAT during surgery
