I've lost quite a lot of weight recently by eating a very strict 1400 calorie a day diet, and exercising every day. I'm also breastfeeding.

On Friday night I developed a horrible cold and cough and have felt really rough and unmotivated. I didn't throw the diet completely out the window but did have a few treats (couple of biscuits, 3 slices of pizza, a glass of wine) and this morning I am 2lb heavier Angry .

I have literally no leeway. If I don't keep to the low calorie intake I put on weight. When not breastfeeding I have to keep to 1000 calories a day to lose weight. Any more and I don't. It's so infuriating and makes me feel like I have to be on an inflexible no treat diet forever if I want to be at my desired weight. Ideally I want to lost another stone and keep it off. Which seems like it'll be practically impossible once I stop bf-ing.

Disclaimer: I know I'm being shallow and petty and this is a royal first world problem but it's pissed me right off and I need to rant. I have Xmas party dresses to fit into goddammit! I'm back on the wagon this morning, have had a low carb breakfast and am now off for a 6-7k walk with the dog.

Any of you who can truly eat whatever you like and not put on weight, I am eternally jealous Envy. Jammy sods. Mmmm jam....

See what I mean?

plecofjustice I don't know what point you are arguing but it certainly won't help most people lose weight to just eat what they like. The reasons behind it are irrelevant, it is a basic fact, I don't care how you do it, but to lose weight you must burn off more than you consume

plecofjustice · 03/12/2014 15:35

My point is that, to be healthy, you need to care for your body.

Healthy doesn't exclusively mean lose weight.

My point is that if a person engages in exercise they enjoy and makes them feel good, and eats food that makes them feel good - really good, not just emotionally happier, they will be healthier and, in many cases, natural weight loss will follow. Realistically, if you listen to your body after you eat a pizza do you feel good? I don't think most people do, they feel heavy, uncomfortable, bloated, a bit sick. It might taste nice at the time, but that's different from being a good experience from start to finish.

Your statement is simplistic and not consistent with known biological science.

To answer the original post YABU.

It's fairly simple, you're currently burning 1400 calories a day.

If you eat 2000 calories and keep burning 1400 you will put on weight.
If you eat 2000 calories and burn 2000 you will not.

TheChandler · 03/12/2014 16:31

I have to eat 600 calories a day to lose weight. I don't care if I feel a bit crappy, its quicker than eating 1400 calories. I'm a size 8 at 8 and a half stone and have been for years. If I creep up to 9 stones or above, I do the 600 calories a day for about 3 weeks with the weekends off.

Dons tin hat...

youareallbonkers · 03/12/2014 16:55

My statement is simplistic because it is simple. Surely I don't have to type it a third time?

It IS consistent with ALL biological science, I don't know what nonsense you are talking about.

This post was not about being healthy, it was about losing weight

I was completely enthralled by this thread until I read belly pork with berries and cream. That sounds VILE! Sorry four Smile.

If 1200 cals per day is 'unwisely low' than surely 1400 while breastfeeding is too?

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2014 08:02

The ChandlerIf my weight starts to creep up I just stop eating meals after 7p.m. and take a spoonful or 2 of turmeric mixed with olive oil before meals, simple!
