To think that people just use MN as an opportunity to get a bit uppity?

Have just been enjoying reading posts on another thread about funny things non-parents have said to you in a clueless type manner, suggesting that their cat/puppy is very similar, you get the picture...All very lighthearted stuff until a non-parent poster comes on and says we're being sanctimonious and the mood of the thread turns to people 'sticking up' for non-parent kitten and puppy raisers...

Have people lost their sense of humour?

Also, why join MN if you're not a parent of planning to be one? Would be like a non-pet owner joining the Labrador Owners Club!!!

yeah but only on mumsnet would she be able to make the chicken last a week

NomorepepperpigPLEASE · 30/11/2014 10:00

Ha ha!

Now, I may wonder why Non parents venture onto Netmums, but MN has such a diverse range of topics and there was a huge need for those experienced in Disabilities etc to be contributing, in the early days.

No group of people should be excluded, even MRA's, who are always good for a laugh.

ssd · 30/11/2014 14:23

see, I dont really get why you'd come on here if you've not got kids but I can see theres loads of topics that would interest anyone

what I dont get is the men on here, to me MN is like the school gates, gossipy, annoying and a bit women-y and I think the sort of men who come on here are the types who like to be seen chatting to a bunch of women when in effect they just look like dicks

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/11/2014 14:29

It's for parents, ssd, not 'mums'. 'By parents, for parents', did you miss that?

I think it's great that people feel free to post here whatever they are or have. Your comments about men posting are offensive and makes YOU look a bit of a dick really.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/11/2014 14:30

.... oh and I have no time for 'women-y women', whatever the hell those are. I just like women, and men... and humankind in general.

patienceisvirtuous · 30/11/2014 14:38

Oh dear ssd, what about those who are ttc, those who've suffered miscarriages or from infertility, those who work with children but don't have them - can you see why, for example, those people might find the forums useful?

Re your comments about men on mn Confused, I'll be as kind as possible and suggest you're very narrow-minded... among other things

ssd · 30/11/2014 17:24

I dont agree, theres no men I know who'd go on mumsnet and I know plenty of decent men who are great dads

still, takes all sorts

solidussnake · 01/12/2014 11:25

yabvvvvu. i'm not married, not a parent either, however in the next say five or six years, I plan to be. In the Ts and Cs of MN it says you don't have to be a mum to be part of mumsnet. I don't just come here to talk about parenting. I come here to talk about everything. No, I don't have children therefore on parenting threads I give what my mother did to solve a problem with me and DSIS or whatever. I've read the classics threads out to DP and he was laughing at them! however, mn is not his thing. It is mine.
Everyone is allowed an opinion and anyone who thinks you shouldn't be on here if you're not a parent is BVU.
patience has it right. there are a lot of women ttc or have had a miscarriage.
I find the forums useful for when I do have my first dc. It's forming an idea of what I will expect from my first dc. Its useful to anyone who works with or wants kids in the future.
did I meantion YABU?
