AIBU to buy a Sleepyhead?

So I have a basinette thing but I've lent it to my sister and by the time my dc2 is born my sister will still be using it, I don't want to buy another one and if possible i just want to buy a normal cot and get a decent pod to put in it. Is it a waste of money to buy a sleepyhead?

I'm thinking of buying one for DC2 as we really struggled with transitioning DD from the Moses basket to the cot. Figured it would be easier to just use the cot with a sleepyhead from the start. I know they're expensive but I've only ever heard good things about them.

I know they sound great but can anything really make a baby sleep that well? DC1 was not a cuddly baby and wasn't bothered about being cuddled and if we have another hot summer I don't want the baby being stifled by the sleepyhead. I want one but it's a lot of money.

DD wasn't cuddly but liked to feel secure in the Moses basket. She hated having so much space in the cot. Obviously all babies are different though. Are there any cheaper alternatives on the market?

We borrowed one from a friend and have found it great, BUT I don't think it's going to suit us much longer and DD is only 3 months old. She's pretty long but there is no way an average sized kid would fit in it for longer than 5 months.

Dd loves hers, she is 12 weeks and we have used it from day one. We use it to co sleep safely. But yeah, not sure how much longer she will fit in there...

My SIL swears by her one and is thinking of buying the bigger version. They are expensive though, but as someone currently experiencing sleepless nights with DS I know you can't put a price on good sleep!!

I love ours, we got it at about 2 weeks and that night he slept for 4 hours up from his previous record of 2 hours. I use ours in a sidecar crib so I can breastfeed in bed and then pop him I it without getting up. Best £100 I ever spent genuinely.

I've held off so far, despite half my nct group buying one. The health visitor asked me if it met the safer sleeping guidelines and after checking the Sleepyhead website I'm not sure it does.

In terms of a cheaper option, we put a rolled up towel or blanket either side of our 7 week old DS when we put him down (swaddled) in his crib or bassinet. This does a similar job because he feels contained.

Loved ours. Dd3 slept in it till 8 months in cot. Never had Moses basket. She slept in it on sofa in daytime and slept well when away due to familiarity of it I believe.

Got great price for it on EBay so ended up not being terribly expensive.

My DS is only a week old but already I think it's worth it. We use it to co sleep, much easier to lift him up to feed than getting out of bed to lift out of the Moses basket. Love how I can sleep with my hand on him and how easy I can check on him. Also if using dummy much easier to find dummy and put back in.

We absolutely love ours. Dd is 11 weeks and we have used it from day 1 inside her cot. That and Ewan the dream sheep seem to have produced a great sleeper (so far, touching wood!).

I got my midwife and then my health visitor to look at dd sleeping in it and they said it's perfectly safe.

We still use ours at 8.5 months. DD definitely settles better with it than without it. I think it meets safe sleep guidance-in any event far more than putting things in the cot that could come loose.

My 6 month old loves his. He hated his crib and feels so much more secure in the sleepyhead.

I saw it gives up to 3 years, at a year ds was big and would have flung it out of the cot. Even now at 3, he is the same height as a 4 yeAr old so that would be a no no. I woukd have thought it would primarily be for a very young baby, to keep them in a safe sleeping position.

They sound brilliant, I'm getting one. Is the bottom thin or padded? I want dc2 to sleep with sheepskin because I've heard it has good health benefits so don't know whether to put the sleepyhead on top of a sheepskin. I will have it in bed with me because I fell asleep a couple of times with DC1 in my arms whilst breastfeeding in bed. Need something to combat that this time.

Get a poddle pod it's much cheaper and looks to be exactly the same. My 1 year old still sleeps in his toddler sized one now.

Careful with sheepskin, it can retain heat and baby can overheat plus they are safer on a firm surface.

I haven't used any positioning aids but am paranoid about SIDS to the point of being neurotic. Having said that, I have co-slept which a lot of mums are more nervous about. Never with a pillow or duvet though.
