advent calenders and discipline

Popped into Tescos to buy the kids advent calenders. They were 2 for 3 pounds and as I have 3 kids I thought I might as well buy 4 calenders. I've put the kids' calenders away until Monday but I've just secretly eaten the whole spare calender. Is this normal?

I've already accidentally eaten 2 chocolate oranges!

MurderonthetopCs · 28/11/2014 22:47

Given the quality of the chocolate in most Advent calendars, yes, yabu

DillyDallyDaydreamer · 28/11/2014 22:52

My mum gets my dds picture calendars and me and DP chocolate ones (gor all the years I had picture ones!)

deadduck · 29/11/2014 00:02

In my weird home country, that would bring seriously bad luck.

Darkesteyes · 29/11/2014 00:12

I havent had a chocolate orange for years. I remember the sparkly advent calendars with pictures. Loved them as a kid and the 24th door for Christmas Eve was usually a double door.

LilyTheSavage · 29/11/2014 08:36

I once ate all the Easter eggs I'd bought for my 3 DSs. Had to hide the wrappings in the bin inside a carrier bag.
I'm with you about nativity advent calendars but have just been thoroughly hypocritical and bought my (adult) DSs chocolate calendars. They still hand-write thank you letters though.

GerundTheBehemoth · 29/11/2014 08:38

It's only unreasonable if you ate the cardboard too.

HmmAnOxfordComma · 29/11/2014 08:41

Ds (14) has a picture one.

Bit blooming annoying that they cost a fiver or so and a chocolate one is about 99p...

TheWitchwithNoName · 29/11/2014 08:44

Almost ate DS advent calendar the other night but then I mentally slapped myself and ate jelly tots instead (really not a good enough substitute). He also has the Lego Star Wars advent calendar but it's as much for me as for him - Darth Vader as Father Christmas!Grin

Bakeoffcakes · 29/11/2014 08:49

Darkesteyes I remember those double doors- the highlight of the run up to Christmas!

Children don't know they're born nowadays, what with their chocolate or even Lego adventsGrin

MIL sends me and Dh a glittery picture one every year - we're 41! We have a competition every morning to see who can guess what the picture will be. It is by far my favourite part of the festive period!

Shodan · 29/11/2014 08:51

This officially makes me weird then, because I have no interest in the chocolate Advent calendars.

The dc have them (the eldest, who is at uni, has taken his back with him to open there Grin) and DH has one- but I have a glittery picture one because I'm childish

Every year I trawl the shops and internet looking for one with proper pictures behind the doors (something of a guessing game, as you may imagine). Fingers crossed I've cracked it this year...

themartian · 29/11/2014 09:13

Love it that some of you have already tucked into your Christmas chocolates, makes me realise I'm not on my own! All this talk about sparkly picture ones has made me want to get one. Where do I look for one? WHsmiths?

Sacrilege! I'm a total glutton but I'd never, ever do that. I have eaten two chocolate iranges already though.

We normally have a refillable drawer one with one chocolate coin for each DC plus a glittery German one from a local gift shop, DH bought me a Divine one last year and it was rather lovely.
