AIBU to think nobody here can support Unconventional Gas extraction (fracking, UCG, CBM etc)?

Mumsnet has surprised me before though...

So surely none here can think that the Government removing homeowner's rights to object to fracking under their property, and it's support for the unconventional gas industry in general, is a good and justified thing?

Aberfan was a tragic accident related to coal mining and this shows the public danger of windfarms - no power source is without risk, it is the level of risk that is important and fracking does not appear more dnagerous than conventional oil and gas extraction

Thanks carol. Please could you back up your ascertain that UGE is no more dangerous than conventional gas?

Deedee would you like to provide statistics of the total number of people who live in the Falkirk area and West Fife/Coastal Villages area?

Deeedeee
if you are concerned about the safety of energy extraction I expect you are campaigning to shut down North Sea oil production?
167 people died on Piper Alpha alone.

Its true, all energy sources have danger.

I used to move a fleet of oil tankers round the planet. With the most professional crews and most meticulous attention to safety it still is highly dangerous. What we liked to call a 'near miss' happened every few months.

Nuclear power stations are always just a matter of hours away from a meltdown (see Fukushima for details).

Natural gas is just as dangerous as oil and is much more highly explosive.

Coal causes many deaths around the world in the process of extraction and from environmental pollution.

Sallyingforth · 28/11/2014 16:32

And don't even think about using candles - they have caused so many deadly fires.

Viviennemary · 28/11/2014 16:36

When they start fracking under Buckingham Palace or 10 Downing Street I might be convinced fracking isn't a bad thing.

In light of the Scottish Morartorium, Welsh position, New York ban, and today's Lancashire decision to reject planning, surely surely people's thinking on unconventional gas is changing?
