Grrrr! It's not as if I'm doing anything out of the ordinary on there, just the 'bog' standard manoeuvres, but it doesn't seem to matter where I purchase, or how much I pay, I always end up with a slidey seat! Please, if you can recommend one to me, I will be forever grateful, and secure in my toilet positioning!

If you ever find one FFS let us know. It's happened to every seat on every loo in every house we've ever lived in!

I had this and we threw out our cheap seat, bought a more expensive one, same thing happened. Bought these and we've never had a problem again! Highly recommend!

Oops, I've been blaming DH for sitting funny on our loo since we got the new one last year...

Ohhh! I had the same issue. I think it is a combination of toilet shape and seat type/washers.

It never happened in my first house but this one i have had 3 different toilets seats in 2 years and they all did it. The one that has done it the least is current cheapo plastic one from heatons. £8 i think. It slipped at first after a few days but i retightened the screws and it has been all good for weeks now. Fingers crossed it stays.

There are wee kits you can get on amazon to fix it. Can't remember the name (sorry!) but type in toilet seat kit, or something like that and there is a wee pack with bit and pieces that sort it. Worked brilliantly for us (we have an old style toilet so it's insanely difficult to get a toilet seat that fits correctly).

I used to have exactly the same problem, then I bought a toilet seat from Lidl. A friend fitted it and tightened it up quite tightly. I didn't need to check or retighten the fittings once.

All was well for about 4 years until DD stood on the seat and it cracked.
To be fair, it had begun to fall apart a bit by then, the studs had started dropping off so it wasn't really a surprise when it cracked. (It was made from polyresin. )
Luckily Lidl were selling polyresin toilet seats again at that time so I bought 2.
Same friend fitted the new toilet seat again and it's been about 9 months and has been absolutely fine.
So to conclude, it's possible it's the toilet seat or the fitting of it.

Its the terror I cant handle. The thought of labial amputation if there is a sudden lateral pincer shift and anything gets caught. It worries me.

I haven't read the whole thread so no idea if this has been resolved now.

We had this problem for ages. We even kept buying new toilet seats for a while. In the end DH went to the local hardware store and bought new, better quality fixings and touch wood no problems now for over 2 years.

Have you a large DH who is sitting down heavily and going off to one side?

I thought that this was just us! my MIL is convinced that our loo is not level because she slides off (not all the way off, that'd be grim to tidy!) the Amazon stuff doesn't look too different to the stuff it came with, I might give the glue a go!

It's the way you sit down I'm telling you. Many people sort of collapse onto the seat and the force of their weight puts the attachments under pressure.

You just need to sit down on top of it without letting your weight displace it....if you sort of go backwards as you sit...or to one side, of course it will eventually come loose. Just sit down!

That's rubbish about how you sit - I've sat on toilets for over 40 years and only had this problem when changing toilet seats, so it happened overnight. Trying to tell me it's how I land on the seat is daft!

I've contacted the company that sold me the seat. They tell me that it's not a top-loading seat because I can screw in the fixings from underneath. Apparently I need an adaption kit to sort it out and it's in the post, so I'll let you know if it works! The strange thing is that the instructions with the seat seemed to suggest screwing in the fixings from underneath was the correct procedure but the company tell me not so.

Maybe we've all got top-loading seats on bottom-fixing toilet seats!

It's not rubbish. The only time mine has broken was when I had a sprained ankle and was more clumsy than usual. I sat on it and skidded backwards on it as I sat. Heavier people will perhaps do this more often.

I think one example of a time when you were clumsy is hardly proof that other people are to blame for their seats going skew whiff. It is a combination of things. 26 years of sitting on toilets and never had it happen til i moved to this house. The problem has miraculously been solved with a new seat. I havent changed my sitting habits.

This must be one of those unspoken things - I just thought I was a bit shit at fitting loo seats .

Maybe you've been unlucky with your loo seat. Mine is from Argos, white painted wood with big colourful spots. Looks distinctively great and hasn't slid about in the few years I've had it.
