AIBU to go to A&E?

Someone just reversed into the back of my car with me and both children in it. We were stationary with engine off in a parking space at sainsburys when it happened. Got shunted forward about a foot and a Big Bang. The impact was square on, by a similar sized car, no dent but a few scratches.

Both children (22months and 5months) seem fussy and were crying afterwards. Still seem out of sorts now but not crying.

I don't know whether to take them to get checked out or whether I'm being a crazy worrypot and A&E will send us home again :/

I hope you are all feeling ok today.

Thanks for the replies. Both DCs slept really well last night and seem right as rain today.

I'm a little stiff today, but not too bad. I've felt worse after sleeping funny so no big deal. In the end I'm glad we stayed at home and got some rest as I think I'd have 2 grumpy DCs had we been up late in A&E.

Now just the headache of the car to sort out :/

Good :)

Apart from you feeling a bit stiff and your car. That's not so good. But I'm glad you are all well.

I'm glad you're all well - thanks for the update.

Take some Ibuprofen and have a hot bath tonight. You may be stiffer tomorrow than you are today.

Good luck with the car - it IS a pain to sort these things out.
Thanks

At this time of year you need to weigh up whether it is really worth going anyway. You have people with all kinds of illnesses flying around, vomiting kids etc. just sitting there in the waiting areas.

That is very very true about the germs.
ugh.

Can't understand the amount of people who said go to A&E. Of course the kids are going to be shaken up, but a shunt like that when in car seats is unlikely to do any serious damage and certainly nothing that couldn't wait a day or two to be assessed.

In the end you didn't go and now the kids seem fine-the chances are if you had gone and had to sit for a few hours the kids would have had a brief check up and you'd have been told to take then home, give them some calpol and see how they were. They would probably have been more grouchy from having to wait in A&E for a few hours.

People have to start using a bit of common sense about day to day incidents and not rush off to clog the system up with ailments that don't need to be seen. I guess the positive outcome of this is a) your kids are fine and you just have your aches and pains to deal with plus the car/car seat hassles b) the systems put in place to try and reduce workload on the NHS have provided a positive outcome this time-a quick phone call in place of hours at the hospital.

Make sure you get out the frozen peas for your neck OP for the next few days! 20 mins every 3-4 hrs for the next few days-leave the hot soaking for a couple of days in preference to icing.

Sorry but I would tell anyone who is worried enough about their 5 month old's behaviour after an accident to consider going to A&E, to go to A&E.

Whether they go or not is their decision but any other advice is irresponsible imo. I'm pretty sure HCPs would rather you took the cautious route with babies and tiny children.
