To think it's absolutely ridiculous that the Rotary Santa sleigh was out in my local town today

Ffs- it's the 22nd of November not December yet the Rotary Santa sleigh was being dragged around at lunchtime today playing 'It's Christmas' at full volume with a very crap looking Santa.

I have very fond memories of this sleigh from my childhood but it was always lit up on a dark night just before Christmas Day.

It it me or does this just take any magic away from Christmas?

I am so sick of the Christmas Police telling everyone we can't be Christmassy before December 1st. Whatever next? No Christmas shopping prior to December 1st? No Halloween stuff allowed in the shops until October?

ChimesAndCarols · 23/11/2014 20:47

They're only cashing in.........the same as all the supermarkets.

maddy68 · 23/11/2014 22:46

I presume they only have one sleigh. They have to start early otherwise they can't get round. It's just logistics

The Rotary club have the sleigh transport (it doesn't fly!) donated to them by generous firms local to that particular club. They consequently have to be accommodating In when they make use of the vehicle. The amount of work involved in organising these floats and fundraising is immense. Members are in general way beyond retirement age. They give up their free time, both going round the streets and standing in the freezing cold and rain outside supermarkets (getting abuse, as well as bottles and crap thrown at them from complete cunts).

You shouldn't give a shit that they're a bit early in some places this year. Just appreciative.

They have published the sleigh route for our neck of the woods. Its TWO WEEKS long. The amount of time that people will be putting in, will be huge in some cases. DH's scout troop have close ties with our local group so DH has put me on warning that he will be expected to help out this year, which I'm kind of dreading as I don't know how many nights that will be. He already does scouts two nights a week, and has his work Christmas party in that fortnight. I fear I might not see him a huge amount that fortnight.

That said, I LOVE the Christmas float coming around and watch it every year, so I guess its nice that DH will be helping making it possible. Plus this year is our first Christmas with PFB so I can't wait for it.

I don't get this, have you been living in a cave? There's loads of Christmas fairs in November. In fact when I was organising one I was told by potential stall holders that the last two weekends in November were their busiest, because that's when all the Christmas fairs are. Christmas markets for food, etc, are more likely to be in December, but the fairs, November. The fairs frequently come with santas etc.
